Clean drinking water availability is a basic tenent of human rights we should all adhere to religiously. The City pledges to protect the welfare of all citizens. The news that our water authority instructed citizens to 'waste' precious resources is no surprise.

How often do I see city sprinklers focused on watering streets and byways instead of the green-green grass? Much too often indeed.

It is the sworn duty of Mayor Chavez to uphold the human rights of Albuquerque and it's citizens.

I must ask you, Mr. Chavez;

How does your water taste?

Noted: I'm not upset with comment about Martin Chavez. You inspired me to post. Forgive me for citing your use of language early on.

A gentle word of advice: I am not a "you people". Such a use of incendiary language does nothing to further your point of view.

Please, friends, think about how you communicate with each other.

We are such sensitive humans, right?

This is the second time I've commented on Kob forum and I know it wasn't your specific post, but there seems to be quite a lot of under the current racism amongst every topic.

What has happened to this world when racism is NOT a man hating a man for his colour but for his lack of tint?

BROWN IS BROWN. I HATE RACISM AND RACIST PEOPLE.

Every day I see a significant amount of my fellow hispanic citizens, through conscious and mostly sub conscious mentality, treating each other like citizens of countries at war?

Why do light skinned hispanics treat darker people like that.

And as for the empty human being that posted the comment about people taking too many showers and the brown colour causing the water discolouration?

WHAT A WORTHLESS EXCUSE FOR A HUMAN BEING YOU ARE. SHAME ON YOU. SHAME ON YOUR HOUSE. What a racist person you are. How dare you belittle your FELLOW HUMAN BEING.

My last question is for Mayor Martin Chavez..,

How's does YOUR water taste?
These people are going thirsty due to fear. Fear is an animal best slain in haste, lest she rise again to release her progeny into the world.

WE THE PEOPLE OF ALBUQUERQUE DEMAND CLEAN WATER FOR THE CITIZENS OF THE SOUTH VALLEY.

Remember the 'floaties' we had in our local bottled water that ABCWUA said was safe?

Since ABCWUA is responsible for the water here, they should be seeing its clean. The legislature and BernCo took over the city water Dept and renamed it Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority, so its their responsibility.

I talked to people at the Water Authority and apparently I hit it on the nose in my previous post. They said that the Mud Filter facility (they don't call it that) was running too acid and they limed it down to adjust the pH. This caused manganese and magnesium compounds to precipitate out. They told me that the facility is now off line. They also admitted that way more than 20% of our water mix is now from the river, though they won't say just how much. They've been creeping the percentage up without notifying the public. They won't say why the brown water got diverted to the South Valley but I think the answer to that is obvious.

Dissolved air. It happens a lot in the Summer. I wouldn't sweat it as long as the water is clear and colorless after it sets for a while.
you are an insightful poster. i'm sick of so many people here lost in ignorance. nice change.

kudos to your struggle with the mucky muck. hope my comments helped out.

You don't need to wait for a sinkhole. You can always use a leak detector. They are very effective nowadays.
The water authority would not spend the money to buy one but they will spend thousands to hold a conference in Texas to determine what might be the problem.

All the while someone said it sounds like a pipe broke, sure does.

When septic tanks become old and cracks develop in the holding chamber, the sludge moves towards the path of least resistance. That path is our drinking water. There are most likely thousands of improperly cared for septic tanks that are not up to code and the problem will only become worse...

I find it hard to believe that the water authority has not tested the water in a lab to find out what makes it cloudy.

Look at the facts, ABQ gets its water from and aquifer, how long do you thing that mightlast??
If we ripped the ridiculous concrete out of the arroyos and allowed the water to refresh the aquifer like it used to instead of heading for the river at 50 mph, it might last quite a while.
Water shortage could force us to limit population growth here, which would be a good thing.

So the water quality problem has evolved from black floaties to a brown cloud, and none of it is harmful? I would like to see the test results. And I also would not drink either the floaties or the cloudy water.

Me either. In fact, I've only SEEN one bottle of local water, and got it prior to the floatie fiasco. I've no idea where it may be distributed at locally.

I don't foresee them ever releasing any test results w/o the numbers being 'spun'. If its not clear, its not entering my mouth, and I'm not impressed with 'sediment' in my water bottles. I don't have that crap in my water in the NE heights, people in the SV shouldn't either.

Somebody should do a Freedom of Information request for the actual test results. Perhaps KOB or the ABQ Journal? Then they can give the results to an independent water quality expert. Better yet, the news organization could pay for independent tests of their own. Seems like that would be good investigative journalism.

They did that with the floaties but to the best of my knowledge, never came up with an absolute & definite cause, nor for sure what exactly those black floaties consisted of.

However in this case, SV residents should do exactly that. Its time ABCWUA cleaned up their act (no pun intended).

Daily Horoscope for December 30

Libra

If you're invited to a party or gathering today and you don't know whether to go, you should. You'll have a terrific time and you might meet someone who always makes your knees go weak. Even if it's a perfectly harmless flirtation and you're both happily committed to other people, it will still do your ego good to have a tantalizing conversation with this person.
