Cameras sprout in an Alaska town on the edge of nowhere

From Anchorage, it takes 90 minutes on a propeller plane to reach this fishing village on the state's southwestern edge, a place where some people still make raincoats out of walrus intestine.

I am a 6th-generation Dillingham for the community of "Dillingham" in Big Ivy in western North Carolina. I read the article with great interest; I am a poet, right now taking a class on "The Craft of Political Poetry" and am planning to write a poem about his story for my class. I, of course, am interested in any "sidebars" to the story re the town's reaction/interactions as these events played out in the town--the townspeople's comments, etc. I hope some of my Dillingham kin will send some tidbits along.

hello ms dillingham;
I live in dillingham, alaska --- there's lots more to this story than what you're reading. I suggest you call the Bristol Bay times in Dillingham, Alaska and talk to the editor Jed. The press has totally blown this out of porportion! Good luck!

The real story is only a very few people in Dillingham like those cameras. They appeal to a certain power/control mentality that we really don't need in this tiny, far away town with no road system for hundreds of miles. It's nuts.

Ah! The camera's. All 80 of them. yeah!, thats right, 80 cameras installed troughout the small VILLAGE of approximately 2500 people. Thats 1 camera for every 32 people. It is very stupid. It was the idea of our chief of police. Very stupid! terrorist? in Dillingham? YEAH RIGHT!!!!!!!!! chief thompson needs to get a life. Stop watching so much damn tv. If the chief is that paranoid then I think he should have those cameras in his own yard watching his own house. All 80n of them!!!!!!!!!!

Hah! That's funny. Terrorists? Talk about paranoia. Something seriously is wrong with them, the powers that be that is.
