Wow, he's accomplished alot, Gilmer is still rated as Academically Unacceptable.$150K a year. I'm impressed, I wonder what someone would get if they really did their job?

I withdrew my child from Gilmer. I talked with Albritton about my child who was having trouble in some of his classes and so where many of my childs friends. His answer was to send him to summer school. Well guess what, in a short summer session my child learned everything they did not learn during the normal school year and passed. When I tested my child on my own with some basic math, english, science, etc. they were still back where they had stared and had not learned anything. Miraculously he was passed to the next grade. Well, I guess this is how Gilmer continues to get money from the government. They pass the kids until they can get rid of them. Albritton deserves 150K a year like my kid deserved getting passed up to the next grade. With extra tutoring the child has caught up in school. The tutors believe it is a lack of care by the Gilmer teachers as well as poor teaching methods.

I've heard about this, so rest assured your child is not the only person that was passed up by Gilmer.

I can assure you that the academic issue that you are referring to has absolutely nothing to do with the teachers at Gilmer ISD. I know many of the teachers at that school district personally and have heard about what they go through. The teachers give 200% to their jobs and are expected to work 24 hours around the clock--7 days a week with no regard to having their own families. They are treated worse than slaves and are given NO respect by Gilmer ISD administration. The administration does not back them up on anything and does NOT assist with children that are disruptive/discipline problems. They actually reward those children with fishing trips and other incentives!! In the meantime, the children that never misbehave are never rewarded. Very sad. I have spoken with many teachers at the school and they all have stories of constantly requesting additional academic assistance for children such as yours from the administration but are either ignored or told no and that these children would just have to attend summer school. The problems start at the top. Its the over-paid corrupt people sitting in their air conditioned offices barking out orders that need to get off their pedestals and start doing something to actually help these poor teachers do their jobs instead of constantly inhibiting them.

I have to disagree anonymous, my son is in high school and he turned in an assignment, yet the teacher gave him a detention for not turning it in. when i called and spoke to her at first she argued with me that he didnt turn it in then not 5 minutes later she said yeah he turned it in but he didnt put his whole name on it. o.k so knock off some points for it dont assign him detention for it and DONT lie to me about it. when i spoke to the assistant principal she said she had several reports on the teacher because she had assigned over half the class to detention for ridiculous reasons. also this same teacher had to be removed from the class room so the assistant principal could teach beacause she was yelling at the students. All the students in the class said they learned more that day then any other. yet this teacher is still there. Y? because they cannot get decent teachers anymore because the state does not want to pay them what they are worth. they dont want to give them the supplies they need or the help. it is ridiculous to have so many students and one teacher especially when the teacher is not qualified.

Mom in Gilmer: Was the assistant named Hollis? The Board members positions that was up for grabs, to be honest they had no business elected to start with. A lawyer & ex- teacher that right there is a red flag. This guy makes $150,000 a year? Damn yall are getting screw all the way around. He got a contract until 2016? He could be in prison between now and then and you will be paying his salary. How STUPID can you people in GILMER allow this to happen? Looks like you have a bunch of pick pockets that have made this all LEGAL.

I'm sorry, but teachers know that the job has low pay when compared to others, but it has a nine month work time with a three month vacation and benefits. They have all road the easy road of life until now. Now schools are having to function more like businesses and cuts are being made. Take the early retirement and leave if you don't like it. Go find another job if you don't like it and if teaching is all that terrible go back to college and learn another career. Albritton is overpaid, the school district is a disgrace and the schools are full of idiots for educators. Many of the same idiots that went to school 15-20 years ago and now those lowly teachers. We pay for astroturf, but not for teachers? Now whose fault is that. Albritton and company snuck that school bond in right under everyone's noses and the teachers helped to push it. Now your waking up and it is too late. Gilmer schools and many of its teachers are a disgrace. The best advise I can give is to move your child to another school as I did. These people are idiots and the longer you leave your child in the Gilmer school system the less prepared he/she will be for life in the real world. If you leave your child at Gilmer they will grow-up and go to an area college and return to Gilmer to teach and start the destuctive cycle all over again.

JFK:Your words well written and I must agree. I recall when the teachers got a 1 year contract. I know my parents were teachers, I have heard all about the system, that is one reason why I didn't become one. See in places like Gilmer I would be hired and fired the same day, I would be there to teach & protect children not to KISS REAR ENDS. That is the name of the game there. That is why my late Dad couldn't teach in Gilmer after they consolidated the schools in the 50's. I recall him saying HELL I WILL GET A JOB SOMEWHERE. Many of these people say I want to be close to home. In Gilmer's case one could say with all the MESS going on there THIS IS NOT EVEN A GOOD PLACE TO VISIT.

I also agree. If they do not like their jobs then they need to have the guts to stand up and LEAVE. Don't wait around to be fired, just leave. You are a more pathetic individual when you do not have the personal drive and motivation to be successful on your own. The teachers remind me of County Judge Dean Fowler. He, like the teachers, wants to sit back and told how great he is and to be paid for his presence, nothing else. Well, I say if you can't produce then get the hell out. Your a failure in life and your showing it now. Feed the system instead of feeding off of it.

Mark: It is not just the Dean Flowers in the county it is the whole damn state. I think Flower was the School's Attorney at one time. You are correct they want to sit back let people tell them how Great they are lol. When they get old they forget you, no one in the County want nothing to do with you. This is something many don't understand. I have made a NAME for myself in many places. In Gilmer it is not a GOOD NAME. In New England they have no problem and some other places. I have decided STUPID in many cases is just BRED NOT BORN. A fool is born every minute, in places like they are born every SECOND. lllllllLAAAAATERR. yOU CAN TELL I cann't spell.

How does he still have a job when the school is in such horrible shape? I have heard that they will be unacceptable this upcoming school year. And, he cant budget worth shit so he had to lay off teachers just to cover his own ass (although he lied to the public about it). Somebody boot his ass already and get someone that knows what they are doing in there! What are you waiting for Gilmer?

I do understand your flustration, I have been that way all my life when I lived in Gilmer. The blind leading the blind and when someone comes in to lead them in the right direction they pull away and think GOD is going to lead them. It is sad, but that is what you have in Gilmer. Then again what do you expect when their ancestors came from Georgia, Tenn.,Alabama,Kentucky? Only a limited few knew how to get out the GATE, there is a better place and better people to live around. Just the PURE GOSSPILL THAT YOU WANT GET IN CHURCH.
