Be interesting to see the nationality of the student and whether parents are here legally.

Very true... Considering the fact that all elementary school students are REQUIRED to get TB testing. This disease should be all but eradicated here... I wonder where it came from this time...

Illegal aliens are known to carry TB....another reason to deport everyone one of them right now.
We need to put togther a task force and throw all 20 million of them in a special warehouse type prison so they can't infect our children with any more of their diseases.

Will the public health department of Virginia release the name of the tb patient so that the rest of Virginia will not be informed of such a horrific contagious disease? Will the news even report this case any further? Maybe if more Va. children and teachers are exposed and become sick. Some forms of TB are completly restistant to anti biotics and can be spread easily. Remember the American doctor with the special drug restitant TB that was pursued by the US government?????? Scary Va.

From the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons...."The influx of illegal aliens has serious hidden medical consequences," writes Madeleine Pelner Cosman, author of the report. "We judge reality primarily by what we see. But what we do not see can be more dangerous, more expensive, and more deadly than what is seen"... "84 California hospitals are closing their doors as a direct result of the rising number of illegal aliens and their non-reimbursed tax on the system"...""Anc hor babies born to illegal aliens instantly qualify as citizens for welfare benefits and have caused enormous rises in Medicaid costs and stipends under Supplemental Security Income and Disability Income."

In addition, the report says, "many illegal aliens harbor fatal diseases that American medicine fought and vanquished long ago, such as drug-resistant tuberculosis, malaria, leprosy, plague, polio, dengue, and Chagas disease."

While politicians often mention there are 43 million without health insurance in this country, the report estimates that at least 25 percent of those are illegal immigrants. The figure could be as high as 50 percent.

Something to think about as our children come home from school with a sniffle or a cough.

A little more to think about:...

Other health threats from illegals include, according to the report:

* Chagas disease, also called American trypanosomiasis or "kissing bug disease," is transmitted by the reduviid bug, which prefers to bite the lips and face. The protozoan parasite that it carries, Trypanosoma cruzi, infects 18 million people annually in Latin America and causes 50,000 deaths. The disease also infiltrates America's blood supply. Chagas affects blood transfusions and transplanted organs. No cure exists. Hundreds of blood recipients may be silently infected.
* Leprosy, also known as Hansen's disease, was so rare in America that in 40 years only 900 people were afflicted. Suddenly, in the past three years America has more than 7,000 cases of leprosy. Leprosy now is endemic to northeastern states because illegal aliens and other immigrants brought leprosy from India, Brazil, the Caribbean and Mexico.
* Dengue fever is exceptionally rare in America, though common in Ecuador, Peru, Vietnam, Thailand, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Mexico. Recently, according to the report, there was a virulent outbreak of dengue fever in Webb County, Texas, which borders Mexico. Though dengue is usually not a fatal disease, dengue hemorrhagic fever routinely kills.
* Polio was eradicated from America, but now reappears in illegal immigrants as do intestinal parasites, says the report.
* Malaria was obliterated, but now is re-emerging in Texas.

the article failed to mention if this a drug resistant strain. Remember the young groom who took several airline flights to and from his honeymoon and the huge scare that ensued? The groom was as American as apple pie.

And The US government pursued him and caught him and locked him up in quarantine too. Releasing his name in full to boot and where he had been exactly and which planes. Again lets see if the news will follow up this Va. TB story line as vigilantly as they did the American doctor who caught the drug resistant TB while caring for the poor in Thailand.

History repeats itself...Native Indians were killed back in 1400s when Christopher Columbus and those European explorers brought diseases with them when they came to America.

The illegal aliens never had the shots we had as kids. Not fair, and they do not even pay taxes.

Let's look at the bright side of things. First of all health care jobs will increase, creating not only jobs for Americans but illegals as well. And number two, ah, well, ah...and increase in welfare payments to anchor babies will pump more money into the economy, you know, like the stimulus package. Yeah, that's it. Besides these babies being on welfare will create more jobs for social workers and such. Then later on the'll be more jobs for prison guards, cops, and probation officers. Yeah, yeah, and then more jobs for paramedics and funeral home directors as the homicide rate shoots up as illegals battle welfare babies for drug turf. Yes sir, the economy is getting a shot in the arm and soon will be booming. Bring on the TB and all those other diseases! Ain't nothing but gold in our illegal friends.

While we are on the subject of illegals and as we recognize that most speak spanish or have trouble understanding english, then why aren,t highway signs put up in both english and spanish? Our spanish comrades who celebrate May Day as the international labor day holiday the dictionary says May Day is should be accorded equal protection of the laws. How can a person not reading english know he is not supposed to drive one hundred mph when he can't read the 25mph speed limit sign? Then the public gets a burr in the rear about hispanic drivers. If we had road signs in spanish, then the hispanics would, legal or illegal, respect the law just as they respect every law they understand. Yes sir, if we put signs in spanish along the Mexican border, then illegals would not cross. They would just look at each other and proclaim,"Look! The sign says 'do not enter' and then they would obey the law and head back to the Mexican heartland. No it's Americans' fault for not having the manners to inform our illegal comrades about our customs and laws. The same could be said of do not litter signs and so on. Our failure to educate our hispanic brethren in such things as," No, no, no, Veldez, we ask women first before sex, no, no, put your gun away before asking people for money."

I am a student at the high school in which the TB case was found and the suspected student is not an illegal alien, so sorry to you people who want to blame them for it.
the school has already started the TB tests for students to further prove that this in fact is just one case of TB and to stop people from thinking its a TB epidemic in manassas

Thanks Connie but it is all about being fair and just and Americans and legal immigrants are not being treated equally or the same. The press often does not identify the legel status much less a picture of an illegal committing crimes as they do both black and white Americans. Look at the African American female just convicted of ID theft. Her picture and name and her crime has been posted for all to view.

May 5 and still no follow up story has been posted and even though TB is very contagious and kills if left untreated. Some who aquire it are just carriers and are not aware they are infected and spreading it to others. Some forms of TB are incurable and drug resistant.
Very scary disease indeed and one does just get it but catches it from those infected with TB. No way this one student just has it without some contact with an TB infected individual. Do not need a medical degree to understand contagious diseases. Perhaps one can call the Va. health department to find out if it is safe to shop at the grocery store they share with the TB neigbhbors, go to the play ground, or even to school but even then is the truth being shared with the general public. Scary. TB is serious and untreated TB is deadly for everyone.

There are as many types of tuberculosis are there are cancer,(of the lungs, skin joints, eyes, etc) Not just aliens or people with bad lifestyles can contract the disease.
I,ve been a one woman campaign since 2001 on tuberculosis but in particular atypical tuberculosis (which is mostly in the environment and not passed from person to person), yet most doctors are unaware of it and it is therefore very difficult to cure.
Atypical mycobacteria are a group of bacteria that are widely distributed in nature. They can be found in water, soil, dairy produce, animals and man, usually without evidence of disease.

Informative post indeed but the problem here in the US is that the TB case details are not being posted and the general public is not being informed by our media or US health officials. No one knows what if any that this recent TB case will affect our childen or our communtiy at large.
