US files lawsuit over jail conditions

The United States has filed a lawsuit alleging that conditions at the Erie County Holding Center, a pre-trial detention center in Buffalo, N.Y., and the Erie County Correctional Facility, a correctional facility in Alden, N.Y , routinely and systematically deprive inmates of constitutional rights, the Justice Department announced.

I was REALLY bothered by the "Erie County Attorney",
a VERY CLOSE approximation of a FORMER Federal
Employee named GOODLANDER, when she spoke several
times over the last four months about the
"frivolous" requests by the Civil Rights Division of
the US Dept. of Justice to view the Holding Center
and HER characterizations of the DOJ. HER
opinions and attitude are apparently also held by
her BOSS, County Executive Collins.
Speaking of her BOSS, in a PRESS CONFERENCE that
;he held yesterday, he spoke of the "LIBERAL
VIEWS" of the Department of Justice...he also
spoke of the County of Erie not going to provide
prisoners with hotel service and several other
statements that REALLY CHARACTERIZE HIS IDEAS ON
THE RIGHTS OF PRISONERS.
The bottom line with these people and their out
of step ideas with the laws of the land(AND I
DON'T MEAN JUST CRIMINAL LAWS) is that they will
END UP COSTING YOU AND ME MONEY.
They will lose any CASE brought against the
County of Erie regarding MINIMUM STANDARDS at the
holding center.
The County has gone down this road BEFORE and
LOST....ARROGANCE AND PIQUE, while appealing to
a PORTION of the electorate of this county, will
not WIN YOUR CASE in State Court or before the
Federal Bench.
Simple rules enforced at the Holding Center
regarding basic rights of the Holding Center
inmates, which are GUARANTEED BY LAW, would
serve to protect the County from legal action
that we now face.
You don't allow screw ups, cover it up and then
THUMB YOUR NOSE at the DOJ, the US Attorney and
the NYS Commissioner of Corrections.
Why wave a RED FLAG at the Bull? Collins and his
legal lap dog are NUTS.

And THEY will cost us MONEY.

I was employed where I had daily contact with the detainees from the holding ctr....but not a county employee.
These detainees were denied medical care routinely and forced to request the court to demand they receive attention.

Many judges listened and never took action to see why the court had to demand medical attention on jail committments for those that were concerned enough to ask the court to intercede... so this ordinary medical care request became a regular action that the COURT took for the past 20 yrs to alleviate the neglect of ERIE COUNTY HOLDING CTR.
I have no agenda with the county in my desire to express to the public the facts as I know them and as they are contrary to the beady and shifty eyed county executive who is sadly and politically..... blaming liberal politics and the desire for hotel accomadations by detainees.

The truth is so much more that I observed and Collins' attempt at a response is only to garner the typical anger most people have against the arrested...and his complete avoidance of the facts that all humans need to have the basic needs...wherever they reside in our free and benevolent...UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!

When Scott Peterson was put in prison BEFORE his trial he was shackled and deprived many things including his freedom. Did you complain then? NO! In most prisons, the prisoners have a better life than a lot of people on the street. They commit crimes and they get 3 meals a day, free TV, clothing and many other things. This has become a nation of PUSSIES!! Criminals should be treated as such, take away all their rights when they are locked up.

Do something about it then. Run for sheriff yourself and fix this so called problem. The DOJ will lose this battle and I suspect with all the dirty Libs in office today that Erie County is not the only only county being taken to court.
