It wasn't the firefighters drinking, the fire house was being used as a bar by borough officials.

"...But I also, as the fire chief, cannot put any of my guys in danger," Guerra said.<<< Oh paleeeeeeeeeeze. You're putting firefighters in danger because ummmmmmmm the illegal bar was closed. How about the citizens being in danger from drunk fireman ? What a bunch hillybillies with that kind of mentality.

I cannot believe these social members have the guts to try and justify a bar in a firehouse? There is no room for alcohol in a place that is designed to protect the public.
Any borough officials should be arrested or at least suspended from their post for ethics violations. Accociating with this type of behavior is a major violation of ethics which compromises the public trust.

I watched and saw the truck loads of booze that was brought out of that place and there is no way anybody can convince me that people are not driving out of there drunk. Police should be guarding that place from now on to insure no more alcohol is brought in there and if so, the DUI arrest should start to climb.

MADD You are absolutely right. They have been driving drunk out of there for years. And all of the decisions about the town have been made from there after the council meetings. That's where the real meetings were held. It's about time someone did something about it. Congratulations to the new council members for trying to rid the town of this illegal operation. They most certainly did SELL alcohol besides the illegal gambling!

In the past volunteer fire co's have had social clubs. I really don't see anything wrong with this as long as the firefighters aren't getting drunk & responding to fire calls. There really isn't any difference if they are at the social club or at a local bar. Most firefighters know the sop's which state they can not be on a truck after they have been drinking.

There were other ways to handle what he felt was a situation , If he felt that "recreation" area was a problem he should have dealt with it in a different manner.
He embarrssed himself the community and the social members of that department.
This situation is a disgrace to the fire service and all that serve. The community looks for there department to come when they dial 911 not other community fire companies.
The chief and the members whom resigned put the commmunity at great danger by placing the department out of service.
Lets all hope this problem settles it self out.

Who even cares about Colwyn anyway.. I've lived in this area for my whole life and never even heard the word "Colwyn" until I heard about this stupid story...

Why is there such thing as a dry anyway... The ordinance is obviously not taken seriously considering that the authority within the town all drink at this bar... so why not lift the ban? I'm sure the township would benefit from selling a few liquor licenses... that is, if it were worth it to even run a restaurant in this unknown town. From what I've absorbed through this news article, the population of Colwyn is probably no more than about 79 people hahaaaaa..

Stop already, I have heard and seen enought. I watched the Channel 10 video from almost 5 years ago and that same group of firefighters had the same problem with these so called social members.
You have to be a complete idiot to believe it's just a coincidence that this happenened twice and there is nothing shady going on.
Look, there is a legal way to raise funds for a fire company and selling booze and illegal poker machines is not an option.
This has stink all over it. Anybody who is involved who turns a blind eye should be arrested and criminally charged.

Wow, Morons like you can even turn an illegal bar into a race issue. Stop trying to fan the flames of hatred and STFU if you have nothing constructive it add to the conversation.

colwyn is a small town and the people thought no one was watching and had others officals telling them it's okay so they broke the law as well as the pride of the people they are to serve and help if looked in more you'll find other things wrong in that same little town.

This is bull**** and only half the story. It's funny that the chiefey and his other 12-year old officers forgot to mention the part where they got SUSPENDED. That's the ONLY reason they resigned. They took the fire truck to his wedding (where they were all drinking before they drove it back to the station) and they suspended him because he didn't get proper clearance. So he threw a hissy-fit and decided to resign. Waah! The drinking has been going on at the firehouse (all many others in Delco) for years, yet they have not complained in the past. They only reason they are complaining now is out of retaliation for their suspensions! Not to mention the fact that these very same firefighters have gone to the bar for a drink themselves! Hypocrites. Liars. Babies.

As one of the 17 firefighters that resigned from this company, yes the chief did use the truck for his "Traditional" firefighters wedding. This is a common practice and under normal circumstances never causes an issue within the company. It was a powertrip for the BOD that let their overbearing egos loose only after they had their full of beer for the night, that attacked the idea based on the fact that they feel that even though they don't have the guts to ride a truck they should make all the decisions for those of us that do. In answer to some of your comments, no the active firefighters of this company did not use the bar for personal use, we were not cool enough to sit back there with the fat cats. We would have had no issues at all with the so called social members of the back if they had encompassed even a shred of what their titles imply... that is if they were one bit social. The truth is that they cared nothing about the welfare of the men and women that risked their lives fighting fires.. only about rotting their own livers at a slow and steady pace in as much comfort as possible.
