For the amount we pay for tax's in Del County they should be able to afford to have and open bar for the whole town. Most small towns have bars in the fire house. I moved to Chester County because of the high tax's in Del County I now pay less than half.

You are all a bunch of idiots. These guys put their lives on the line for FREE. If they want a beer afterwards fine. I have been around all of the Colwyn and Darby Fire Companies for my whole life and have never seen a fireman go to a call drunk. There is no social vs active membership at these companies. The people you are calling social are all too old to safely go on a call and already put in 20-30 years or more being responders. They stay members after their ability to fight fires is gone in order to support the companies financially.

As a long time, hard working resident of Colwyn, I'd like to say how disgusting it is to watch these elected officials defend their right to behave like bar hags and drunks on my tax dollar. I hope they are all thoroughly investigated and locked up! Yeah, your social club is more important than the townspeople sleeping soundly without the fear of their houses burning down and help arriving too late! Another thought, who is testing the sobriety levels of these people after they leave this "club" and drive through our streets. We have children everywhere. I guess thats why there's a curfew. So no kids get hit as these drunks drive home!

Was anyone injured? Is this worth it? Must be a slow day for the media...
Who cares what they do for recreation?
They served the community. Now the community needs to back off and look for other things to sensationalize.

It's not just about whether they have a bar on site, it's about the political agenda of those who sought to overturn a local ordinance while using taxpayer funds to support these activities. What ratio of these funds were actually used to benefit the community or the fire fighters vs. what was spent to purchase gambling machines and large screen televisions? Is anyone investigating the possible connection between this corruption and that of Philadelphia City Hall? Interesting that this sort of community mentality didn't extend to the Parks & Recreation Department when [Tonette Pray was the Director of Parks & Recreation] the local $300,000.00 plus swim club was sold at auction for about $30,000.00 because they did not pay the water bill? or the back taxes?! Where were these individuals then? It's not just about the fire department. There are community members who live there and wanted to enjoy social interaction as well. With, or without liquor!

Did you ever read about abolition and the battle in America over the right to drink? Many were incarcerated because of the desire to drink and all that they went through to make sure that this right was preserved is sort of lost in this struggle to make Colwyn a 'wet town.'

OK,COLWYN GETS DRUNK AND DARBY GETS TO FIGHT TRHEIR FIRES,WHATS THE DIFFERENCE THEY ALL GOT BARS AND THEIR ALL A BUNCH OF DRUNKEN IDIOTS!COME TO TOWN AND ILL SHOW YOU DARBY BOROUGHS BAR NEAR THE FIREHOUSE THEY GOTO EVEN THOUGH THEY GOT CAUGHT A FEW TIMES DRINKIN ON THE JOB.
BETTER YET,LET THEM DRIVS ANOTHER FIRETRUCK LIKE THEY DID AGAIN,IR WAS FUN,
Some residents in Darby Borough are angry after they said intoxicated firefighters drove a station truck struck their vehicles -- again.

Several months ago, NBC 10 investigator Luann Cahn covered a similar incident. This time, she said police reports confirmed that a ladder truck from Darby Borough Fire Station No. 2 ran into several vehicles last Thursday.

A resident said doors and bumpers were ripped off some of the cars parked on Concord Road from the impact.

"It was moving quick and they didn't stop," one resident said.

According to sources, the truck was responding to a fire close to the firehouse, but drivers took the long route through several other boroughs before smashing through narrow Concord Road.

The truck eventually made it to the fire call, but it was so late another ladder truck had been called in from neighboring Collingdale, sources added, noting that members of the fire company were seen at a party with an open bar earlier in the night.

There is also a bar in the firehouse.

The president of the fire company, Ed Neary Sr., said he was out of town when the incident happened.

Neary said he didn't know who was driving at the time of the incident, and added that the incident was under investigation.

Last year, the fire chief of Darby Station No. 1 wrote letters to borough managers stating that Darby fire patrol No. 2 operated vehicles and manpower under the influence of alcohol.

"I'm going to definitely ask more questions now that you're telling me," Mayor Helen Thomas said

Still, Thomas said, police are not reporting any suspicion of alcohol in this case.

"I think it was 1 in the morning; everyone was in bed," firefighter Mike Fecanin said when asked if anyone had been drinking before the fire call.

But neighbors said it just doesn't make sense.

"I think it was reckless and dangerous," a resident said.

NBC 10 obtained a police report that stated Ed Gannon, the third assistant fire chief of Darby No. 2, was driving the truck. He did not return calls from NBC 10.

The station also contacted Ed Gannon Jr., a local district justice and a Darby No. 2 firefighter, but he did not wish to comment.
