Should the government pay for Bradley Manning's gender reassignment surgery?

There are 3 comments on the Charleston City Paper story from Sep 4, 2013, titled Should the government pay for Bradley Manning's gender reassignment surgery?. In it, Charleston City Paper reports that:

"Forcing someone to live in a body that's foreign to them is cruel. The fact that Manning is a convicted felon doesn't change that, but I can think of better ways to fund one's gender reassignment surgery than committing treason and subsequently asking the government to pay for it."

Well that's a clever move. I've known many transsexuals on public assistance (SSI), but it doesn't pay for their surgery. I think only their hormones and doctor bills, but no surgery.

I am sure that will be many fellow inmates of Manning who will be more than willing to perform a major part of that surgery for free.
