IRS: Some rebate checks delayed by unanticipated glitch

Many taxpayers checking their bank accounts for tax rebate stimulus checks should start looking in their mailboxes instead.

Like many others, I checked my account on Friday to see whether the stimulus payment was there. It's a good thing I wasn't relying on it. The check's in the mail, eh? Why should the government be different?

I have not received our check, and it is supposed to be there May 9, 2008. Any others still waiting??

My check should be here by May 16, 2008. I looked it up on the IRS site. You can type in SSN and some other info and it shows how much and when.

Here's the schedule as published by the IRS:

DIRECT DEPOSIT

Last two SSN digits: Payments will be transmitted no later than (and received by the end of the day of):
00 through 20 May 2
21 through 75 May 9
76 through 99 May 16

PAPER CHECK

Last two SSN digits: Payments will be mailed no later than (and received a few days after):
00 through 09 May 16

I got my check today. my last 2 digets are 82.

I got my check today. But i thought that if you was single without children and filed taxes that you get $600.00. My check was $583.00, it may not be a big deal, but what happened to the $17.00?? Has anyone else had problems or not got the amount that was told?

They must have found a $17.00 error in your previous filings.

I do not know. I have my taxes done for me every year. A couple years ago I was audited by the IRS, they do this randomly to people from what they told me but anyway I came out clean. I have heard that some people did not get all of their money either by not getting the $300.00 for each child, I heard of some getting only $300.00 instead of $600.00.

The $600 is a maximum. The actual amount is based on income and tax liability for 2007. There's a program to estimate payments on the IRS web site.

I did direct deposit...
On the other post, the one who got 583. back, my son only got 533. back and that is what he actually paid in taxes this year, so double check what you paid in and see if it is the amount you got back. My older son paid in over 3000. and only got 600 back, so it is something the irs is doing to people. I am just thankful to get something back. Every penny helps. ;)

if your tax liablity (taxes you owed according to your adjusted gross income was less than 600 you only get that much)

If you owe back childsupport or taxes you may not receive the rebate amount you expected. If you got a ral for your 2007 tax return you will get a check even if your refund was direct deposited into your bank account.
