How many of you have ever bought from a meat dealer? I recently bought some from a guy based out of Knoxville. The product is actually pretty good. I was wondering if you have and how much did you actually pay? I have been able to talk them down and get a pretty good deal.

I've never purchased ... always been afraid to. What kind of meat do they sell?

My wife and I bought some one time. It was not very good and when they came back they offered us some different cuts and they were not great but OK. The prices are negotiable so work them down and if you are not satisfied wait till they roll back through, and they will after selling to you, and tell them. They may give you your money back but they never offer us the option.

We bought quite a bit once because we thought we were getting a real deal. But some of it was cuts we wouldn't have normally bought. So all in all we would have been better off to just buy it at the grocery store. I am skeptical about buying meat from a door to door salesman. But overall it was pretty good. Some of the cuts were tough but then some were really good too.
I don't remember who we bought it from. Then we had another guy from a different company come through and he caught me outside and was really pushy and ended up getting smart because I didn't want to buy anything from him. I didn't think about it or I would have got the 800 # of the side of the truck and called in on him. The one we bought from was really nice. So guess you got good ones and not so good ones in everything.

I am so glad we raise our own meat. At least I know what is in it. Unlike the stuff you get off the truck or out of the grocery stores.

I tried the filet mignon today, It was really good. I put it on the grill. They were 6 oz size and I got a box of 12 for about $30. I was pleased with what I bought from this company. I plan to buy again.

I had a tattooed smoker ask me if I needed any meat in the Weigels parking lot. He had a cool toyota pickup (vintage) and a freezer like I have in my basement bungee corded in the bed. He was also sucking a cig.

I do like that Omaha meat though. It tastes pretty good and it's cheaper than Kroger.

1st it's not grade A meat. 2nd they drive around with the meat often thawing then being re-freezed when they can get their freezer near an electrical-outlet.
That stuff is basically unclaimed freight that is marked down and sold to those people. Think of it as Big Lots meets your area Kirby-crook...er um Kirby-dealer.
It's not a lower class of meat. And the trucks have the same freezer that the ones do that deliver to the grocery stores.

And what does re-freezed mean????

I too buy from Schwanns. They come to my work and we put our items in the freezer and then take them home at night or leave them there to eat for lunch.
To try them you can go to www.Schwans.com

I tend to avoid people asking me if I'd like to see their meat.

Maybe it's just me.

We buy from Schwanns also. Right now their prices are very close to grocery store prices and their ice cream is hard to beat. I love the ice cream sandwiches especially if you eat them right off the truck. However if you want quality beef you must try one off the farm. I raise Angus cattle and will feed some for slaughter. After you try this kind of beef you will see why some do not like the door to door steak salesmen. I have tried it all and there are some good deals and some decent food, but after you try a farm raised, no steroids, preservatives, and cut to your preference you will not find anything that comes close.

I agree with you. My husband is going to kill a deer for us this year. We prefer deer meat, we just didn't get one last year. I prefer to know that the animal is clean and didn't suffer when it died. After seeing how those poor cattle were treated, I am staying away from grocery store beef.

If you are not lucky enough to kill a deer or if you do not hunt many of the processors have a list you can get on and get a deer that someone does not want. You can even specify that you would like a big northern deer, small, whatever your liking.

If you are interested in a freezer beef write back on this post and I will give you a link to contact me. I own a farm in Grainger Co.
