That dump truck should have been able to go around them. If i see someone on the side of the road. A car, or a biciclist, or a jogger. I always give them enough room and go around them. Was the dump truck using caution? That remains to be seen. Im thinking this could have been prevented. Too bad it had to happen. And that someones life has ended. What a shame.

Just heard a little while ago, another dump truck accident on US 31 near Bagley in Holland. Do we have a rampant dump truck driver out there or what?

10:30 at night. 4-ways on. Parked on the shoulder. Clear weather. No skid marks. Looks like there is going to be some criminal proceedings in that driverís future. A civil action for sure. He better hire a good lawyer right away.

Looks like someone may have fallen asleep at the wheel. I always get in the left lane when I see something parked on the shoulder.

I hate I-94. I can't think of a worse place to break down. If I ever get a flat on that highway i'm driving on the rim till I get to the next offramp.

They ran out of gas. Like they really meant it. Like gas isn't expensive enough. I guess you have playing and filling your gas tank up, all mixed up.... duh

you guys have no idea how dangerous it is on the highway , i drive towtruck and am always dodging cars who do not pay attention to what is going on around them . my truck has been hit , my cable was hit doing a winch out this winter , these people who ran out of fuel did not realize the dangers of being on the highway i recamend if you run out of gas call 911 or a tow company that can use the vehicles they are driving to block with the lights they have on the truck or car . i am sorry for the family who lost 2 , i hope and wish you well. here is another piece of advice 2 towtruck drivers are killed a day in u.s trying to help people so please keep your eyes open and move over.

I agree. I have been broken down on the road before, and done service calls on the shoulder of the road before. It is dangerous. However, it usually isn't the trucks that I have had the close calls with. They usually move over if they can. What annoys me is the cars who don't move over when there is no one blocking the left lane. What's worse yet is when someone pulls into the left lane to avoid you on the shoulder, and a car passes on the right when you are standing on the shoulder.

It's sad that this happened, but I wouldn't go blaming trucks just yet. Seems to me there have been quite a few collisions between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek in the last couple years involving cars hitting other vehicles on the shoulder.
