Arcata man leads police on chase from Eureka to Mendocino

I heard this crocked codger was pushing speeds of 40-45 miles per hour!

|
Cody's dad?

A half hour? From Eureka to Leggett? For real?

|
It takes me 1.5 hours to get to Legget from Eureka. He should be glad the EPD stopped at Weott. He knows his life was in danger with EPD.

|
he feared the EPD because he knows they rent "WACO- The Future Of Law Enforcement".

wow crazy dude... 70 years old and running from the cops.... wow is all I can say...
|
|
Scanner traffic said it was up to 105 at Herric overpass and 120 at Fields Landing. And where the hell was a drunk (allegedly, yes) old man going in such a hurry at 7:30AM? |
|
Role model at least |

I saw this chase... or at least about 30 seconds of it and I'm totally surprised that a 70 y/o was the driver of the car. I hope they do more than slap this moron on the wrist... Being in Lane 1 at the top of the hill coming up to the Lolita exit and with a pickup towing a travel trailer exiting the slow lane into Lane 2, it could have been really ugly if I had not seen these idiots coming and slowed down to let them pass. And yes, my insult is for the Eureka cop in pursuit, too... Why in the HELL wasn't he using his siren?
It's a good thing I have a habit of checking my rear view mirrors every minute or so. And where was the CHP? Getting their morning donuts at Starbucks? |
|
|
Bet he had his left turn blinker on the whole way!
|
|
|
He forgot to stop and dive into the river!

From Eureka to Weott, it's about 45 miles, so he would have been driving 90 mph to get there in half an hour.
From Eureka to Leggett, it's about 90 miles, so he would have been driving 180 mph to get there in half an hour. Clearly, it was only a "half-hour chase" for the EPD, which abandoned the pursuit at Weott. And clearly, whoever wrote up this Staff Report for the Times-Standard, based on the EPD's press release, was just as dense as whoever wrote up the Staff Report for the Eureka Reporter. |

For the person who commented on why the EPD cop wasn't using his siren...
Sirens are not that effective on freeways, or any road for that matter where the vehicle is at a high rate of speed. Even at 60 mph, you wouldn't have heard the siren until the cop was just about to pass you. At 90 mph, you wouldn't have heard it until it DID pass you. In these cases, the most the responding unit can do is use lights. Sirens might be used too, but they really are not effective at all on freeways. |

ts made a mistake its not a big deal! and i wish people would lay off the epd they do the best they can. and im not a police officer so dont think that im just another person who lives in eureka that depends on them for help when i need it. |

This man is dangerous.....he has had his license removed by DMV, several arrests and citations, and flipped a commercial vehicle at Clam Beach. All this has occured in the last few months. Richard continues to put the public at risk with no regard for safety. He is arrogent and believes he is above the public laws. He has caused major driving violations putting innocent people at great risk of injury and death, yet he continues to get behind the wheel of his cars.
I urge all public members who value their lives and their loved ones lives to contact the District Attorney and request immediate and severe prosecution or we will be asking WHY? when we pick up the paper and see Richard has killed an innocent by-standered. |

PS.... CALIFORNIA LAW requires patrol vehicles have a solid red light, a flashing red light, AND A SIREN when breaking the speed laws. They also require a siren be activated to be able to legally charge someone with an illegal fleeing in a vehicle.
There are only a few exceptions to this. ie. siren off to avoid detection as they enter a incident that would need a concealed approach. |

Me too. However I doubt other readers of this thread care very much, except Jeff E who cares very much. Too much if you get my meaning, if you catch my drift, nudge, nudge, wink, wink. Say no more, say no more. |

"FROM FORTUNA" is a cop. "ANGRY THIS MAN HAS KEYS" is also a cop. Maybe the same cop, not sure but they sound the same. But absolutely a cop (or former one). He is releasing non-public information that only law enforcement has access to and knows things that only law enforcement knows.
I think the T-S should use their billions and find out who this cop is and out him publicly. Unless of course he's not noo much of a coward to come clean on who he is. Since he has openly libeled the driver with his first post it's perfectly legal to pursue both civil and criminal charges against him and publish all of his personal information. Thanks, cop, now we finally have some public examples of your criminal bent. In the future maybe take a clue from the Dumb Criminals and don't commit your crime in full view of the public in a place that makes a permanent record of everything. See you in the Arrest Logs... |

anon - Maybe he is his neighbor or knows his neighbor. You know how information gets around Humboldt. Everybody is related or went to school together. I'm probably your cousin.
