Mark Dayton has an excellent chance of winning the governorship of MN. You'd obviously be very surprised to learn how many supporters he has. Not only that, but he would make an excellent governor. He's definitely got my vote.

Mark served a 6-year term as a US Senator, has already had his 15 minutes of fame, and then some. As I noted, an election featuring Mark Dayton as the Democratic nominee would hinge less on Mark, and mostly on who was the Republican opponent.
I suspect that T-paw would thrash Mark, but that Mark would thrash, say, Mary Kiffmeyer or Phil Krinkie.
I assert that in Minnesota, sometimes our choices are severely limited: Mediocre, Poor, Bad, Really Bad, and OMG you CAN'T Be Serious!

That's not true. He hasn't lost his luster at all. Democrats in MN love him. As for his senatorship, surely you know that it's pretty hard to be an effective senator when you have no seniority. That's just how it works. Mary Dayton will be an excellent governor. Besides, when have we ever had an incredibly nice guy for a governor? I am really looking forward to his term in office as governor of MN.
Madaman wrote:
I am amused by Mark's filing. I was an ardent supporter when he ran for Senator, but after a lackluster term I was glad he chose not to undergo the embarrassment of attempting a 2nd term.
He doesn't appear to understand that he has lost his luster as a Boy Wonder from many years ago, that Democrats in Minnesota simply have no listening for him any more.
I certainly don't!

As I noted, I WAS an ardent supporter of Mark for Senate. His closing the office for "national security" occurred as a Major Wimpy Move -- no one else closed their Senate office for fear of terrorist attack. As for seniority, Paul Wellstone did a far better job with the same zero seniority. Mark seemed like merely a quiet benchwarmer, a placeholder in case a real statesman were to show up.

Griping aside, I will listen to what Mark has to say -- but he'd better be DAMN inspiring, as he NEVER has before.

Of COURSE he would be better than T-paw! So would my cousin.

Global warming is more believable than WMD. By the way, are you a conservative. I heard they are selling insurance on TV.
Biden on Meet the Press in 2002, discussing Saddam Hussein:“He’s a long term threat and a short term threat to our national security…“We have no choice but to eliminate the threat. This is a guy who is an extreme danger to the world.”
Biden on Meet the Press in 2002:“Saddam must be dislodged from his weapons or dislodged from power.”
Biden on Meet the Press in 2007, on Hussein’s WMDs:“Well, the point is, it turned out they didn’t, but everyone in the world thought he had them. The weapons inspectors said he had them. He catalogued — they catalogued them. This was not some, some Cheney, you know, pipe dream. This was, in fact, catalogued.”
Biden on Meet the Press, April 29, 2007:“The threat [Saddam Hussein] presented was that, if Saddam was left unfettered, which I said during that period, for the next five years with sanctions lifted and billions of dollars into his coffers, then I believed he had the ability to acquire a tactical nuclear weapon — not by building it, by purchasing it. I also believed he was a threat in that he was — every single solitary U.N. resolution which he agreed to abide by, which was the equivalent of a peace agreement at the United Nations, after he got out of — after we kicked him out of Kuwait, he was violating. Now, the rules of the road either mean something or they don’t. The international community says “We’re going to enforce the sanctions we placed” or not. And what was the international community doing? The international community was weakening. They were pulling away.”
Biden to the Brookings Institution in 2005:“We can call it quits and withdraw from Iraq. I think that would be a gigantic mistake. Or we can set a deadline for pulling out, which I fear will only encourage our enemies to wait us out — equally a mistake.”

He wouldn't be better than Tpaw, in my estimation. I am happy with the way Tpaw held the line.

Dayton is a nut, you got the benchwarmer, placeholder analogies right, that's for sure. I didn't like Wellstone's politics, but at least he wasn't a flaky fake. Wellstone really believed the things he said.

No one, not even Mark Dayton, believes the stuff that comes out of Dayton's mouth.

I have no desire to argue ANY of the things that came out of Dayton's mouth. I MUST ask, however: How the hell would YOU (or anyone else) know with certainty exactly what another believes? I mean, the Spanish Inquisition would put people on trial for their beliefs -- but how would you establish that Dayton doesn't believe his own words?

I know YOU don't believe those words, and I am not certain I would either -- but I think your assertion is just a tad sweeping.

Please simply consider that an expression of my disgust with T-paw -- not a literal assertion that any of my many cousins would be better. Am I guilty of taking your disgust with Dayton just as literally?

The parents of his young staff wrote him thank you letters for keeping their kids safe. There was a definite anthrax scare. The legislature was in recess. No one was around. He was concerned about the safety of those young people. Why weren't the other senators concerned about their own staff? Because they didn't care. If I had a child on his staff, I would be eternally grateful to him. It's always better to be safe than sorry when lives are at risk. Too bad some of the managers in the Twin Towers didn't tell their employees to vacate the building. Less people would have died. Instead they all just sat there to see what would happen next. Dayton has my vote, as well as the vote of thousands of other Minnesotans. I fully expect him to be our next governor and I'm very happy and excited about it. I was present at the AFSCME candidate screening and am fully supportive of the endorsement.

Most MN Democrats like the things that Dayton says. I can't think of any of his issues that I would disagree with.

<quoted text>
There you go with the "most" claim again, Colleen. You have no
idea what "most" democrats think or like. And, again, even if
he wins the nomination it will be with a plurality, not a
majority. Most, when I went to school, meant more than 50%(half).
You have no way of knowing whether more than half of democrats
favor him or want him.

As for the antrax scare, I will say this again too. Out of 535
elected representatives, only one closed their office and even
his own party peers were a combination of confused and amused
that he did. They had the same info as he did and saw nothing
in it. And it is mind boggling that you would accuse 534 elected
representatives of literally not caring whether or not their
staffs lived or died and that is exactly what you did.

With all due respect, my friend, you are coming across more and
more as a flat out Koolaid drinker. It is almost cult like how
you defend him and follow him in whatever he says and does;
very scary stuff, Colleen. As I have said before: you have no
idea what candidates each party (again, there are more than two
parties) will put forward, yet you won't even consider looking
at any of them. That is a one party rule system, Colleen; the
system the other half of the world has.

At the risk of being offensive, it's time to take the blinders
off and put the Koolaid down and look at ALL possibilities.
Freedom requires nothing less.

Take care.
