Meeker County's former practice of strip-searching and sometimes photographing private body parts of all newly arrested people as they were booked into jail will cost the Minnesota Counties Insurance Trust $1.75 million.

The agreement calls for paying $50,000 to Gail Lynn Simpson of Big Lake, who filed the initial civil lawsuit against Meeker County in March 2008. Simpson charged that she had been booked into the jail five times on traffic violations, misdemeanor theft and a child-support dispute.

5 phucking times, and she gets a free $50,000. Just...wow...

This country has lost its way even more than I thought if our courts allowed something like this to happen.

This was in an earlier article about this case. They document ALL BODY PIERCINGS for two reasons. First, to make sure they can't be used as weapons. Second, to make sure when a criminal cries they were injured or robbed by the jailers there is proof of any irregularities in the piercings at the time of intake.

The same reasons they do it (to prevent lawsuits) is now used to file another one (and they settled, which is just as good as winning).

This woman owes over twenty thousand in back child support. Now she'll blow it all a way and not take care of it. Trust me I know for a fact. I've been dealing with her for over seven years.

She's only hurting my daughter by not supporting her. I only want what's best for my daughter and I hope Ms.Simpson can get it together and finally get a job and raise her child and stay out of trouble for her daughters sake. I guess u have to just grin and bare it and see what the out come of the whole matter turns out to be. Hopefully she reads this and It sinks into her had!

Assuming you are who you say you are, don't count on it. She will throw it away on dope, or at the casino, or something else within hours of getting it. And our incompetent Family Law system will do nothing to stop it.

I understand your feelings, I too am very frustrated and it doesn't seem right...however, they performed a strip search and took pictures of her breasts, well I would say they definitely violated her rights and she is entitled to whatever she can recover...gotta love our justice system but again, I would say, no matter what you might think of this woman she defineilty has a case and reason to persue it....

You would prefer that they don't search her, and she kills herself (or a guard) with a weapon? Or that she claims a guard ripped her nipple ring out and there is no proof she was injured before she got there?

She is a CRIMINAL. She wasn't walking to some Honors class at the U, and the cops just swooped in and grabbed her for no reason. She may not be 'guilty' until proven in court, but the police absolutely have the right to protect themselves (and herself) from her (physically and legally) while she is in custody.
