Not to excuse the rape, but what sort of example does one think this woman was setting for her sons?"...passed out drunk on the couch," is not the way I envision my mom. Although not deserving to be raped by her own son, the woman was apparently not raising her kids to have any moral or ethical standards acceptable to society. You sow what you reap.

I agree that she wasn't setting a good example, but still what kind of sick and twisted guy is this?

Careful not to stray from the actual crime. She did not commit a crime, he did.

This crime is inexcusable and despicable. There are many questions to ask here such as was it his birth mother? I mean after all we don't knwo this yet and it sounds like it took place in a trailer park so lord only knows. It is not suprising that it took place in Alabama. I'd like to know what a passed out mom could have possibly proved in the arguement between the boy and his brother.

I agree that this act is completely unacceptable, but how much of a prejudiced bigot can you be to say you're not surprised that this took place in Alabama? I'm surprised it happened anywhere. I do think that this type of news is what gives the state a bad reputation, but having lived both in the north and the south, I can tell you honestly that people are pretty much the same anywhere you go, mostly decent with a few bad apples. It's the bad apples that show up in the news though, and anyone too inept to realize it makes assumptions about the entire state based on one person's actions.

This story is disturbing in so many ways. The son-at 19 years of age- is responsible for his actions. What a horrible and sad thing to have happen to a family. The circumstances do lend themselves to speculation as to what events might have led to this tragedy. If she is 45 now, that means she was 26 years old when she gave birth--Not a teenaged mother....where is the father in all of this? I am sure more details about this "family" will be revealed in the days to come.

Very short sighted response in my opinion--you have no idea about this woman's life. Isn't it "reap what you sow" anyway?

As a foreign Moslem guest, sounding like a typical Freudan, the Sex Drive can break All the barriers. We, everywhere on the Planet, have let the Vice Culture to penetrate our very own privacy at homes: TV Cables, TV Sattelite Channels, Porno Mags, Friday Nights' advertized Mania for must have a Date male ego, etc Then we wonder how and why the younger generations are so obsessed with Sex?!

PS. Had been too close to Alabama, taking everychance to drive through the Beautiful Country Scenes to satisfy my curiosity for sightseeing. It Was a management training course in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1995. At then, America was a little bit different from Texas/Oklahoma of the late 70s/early 80s when I had my graduate/postgraduate studies/research. For sure America after 2001 has been very different, No thanks to that Ghost still wandering through the Afgan Caves with All the Mighty NATO Forces unable to Catch Him?????!!!!!

As a sane person, I don't even attempt to understand or comprehend this, for it is truly outside the realm of any sense of decency known to a human being.

Hey, I would thank you not to throw slings at Alabama, This kind of thing happens all over. We have lived in a lot of other states on the globe and CHOSE to come to ALABAMA to make it our home because people STILL have some Moral standards here. Sure you have your bad everywhere, that's just part of life, but basically in searching for a place to make our home we found it to be a GREAT peaceful place to call HOME.

wtf is that about not being surprised it was in Alabama? You've obviously not been there.& Like someone said up there;; its generally good people with a few bad apples. It'd be surprising to happen anywhere. Unless your completely heartless. You've prolly never even been to Alabama. I lived there for 13 years & still make visits regularly. & theres some of the best & most amazing people I ever met there!!
