AMEN wrote:
GO WOOD
Wood said he had three more opportunities to vote against the project, which will be when the council votes on the contract, on the bond issue and the purchase of the land.
I still dont think the project is feasible. I dont think it will pay for itself and we dont have any money to make up the difference on the payments of the bond, Wood said.
So, I dont know what is going to happen.
I know historically some of these things that go in, the first two or three years will be a blast.
Then people start getting tired of doing those things and backing off.
My idea and thinking was if it is such a great deal then why hasnt a private developer stepped up and said Ill do it if it is going to make that much money?

Doug Wood Good Job.. It is apparent that if anyone takes a stand and stands for what they believe in they should be personally attacked on that. I believe that maybe just maybe Councilman Wood has information concerning William G. Kellen and American Family Entertainment Center that you do not. Maybe he has done his homework and discovered that Kellen has 7 AFEC corporations that have all been dissolved due to tax delinquency I found them go to Secretary of State Wyoming look under business, search business data, and type in American Family Entertainment Center there are 7 Entertainment LLC's Administratively Assolved Due to Taxes. Maybe He has found AFEC has another one in The State of Idaho Admin Cancelled. Maybe he found out that the all of the projects in which American Family Entertainment has listed on their website are not really in progress or have been cancelled.

Maybe he found out there MIGHT be a connection from the Bankrupt Facility AFEC/SE in Gaffney S.C. which our council memebrs visited which is now known as Starmax Entertainment and they just so happen to Run the facility in Deming New Mexico which our council members also visited. Maybe he found out the history of the Starmax/Luna County New Mexico facility which began in 2004 with the promise of complete PRIVATE investment from AFEC and a possible initial investment from the county of paving a parking lot for $250,000 to the approving of a sales tax bond intiative that led to COMPLETE GOVERNMENT INVESTMENT and Luna County building the facility for well over 8 million dollars at taxpayers expense. Maybe he found out Kellen and AFEC made at least well over a Million and a half dollars (maybe more?) all paid directly to him from the TAXPAYERS in Luna County with NO INVESTMENT from AFEC. Maybe he found out substandard and used equipment was purchased for use in the NEW Facility at new prices. Maybe he learned that there were numerous problems and cost overuns and that the Commissioners in Luna County questioned whether the invoices submitted to the County contained markups amd made it a matter of Public record that "They had concerns that the true price is being reflected on the invoices submitted by Mr. Kellen". Maybe Councilman Wood learned that Luna County hired someone to monitor Mr. Kellen and AFEC "has one GB(* and because they were having trouble with Mr. Kellen, Mr. Vinson thought it would be a good idea to put him out there to get a quality product for Luna County". Maybe Wood learned that Kellen/AFEC was 1.2 million dollars over budget on the Luna County facility as of March 26th, 2009.

Maybe he learned that 1.2 million was the amount initially given to Mr. Kellen/AFEC at the very start of the project????? Maybe he learned that the agreement later transferred after Kellen and AFEC had made their money to the former Bankrupt AFEC/SE now known as STARMAX Entertainment and that the management agreemnet they had was that Starmax management would get 75% Profit 1st year which "guaranteed that the management team would get some kind of reward for THEIR RISK. The Manager of STARMAX /Bill Kowert had huge up front risk in terms of time, and effort and operating money, without guaranteed compensation" Maybe Wood questioned What Risk They had invested NOTHING? In May 18th, 2010 the Deming Starmax/AFEC Entertainment Facility had notIn May 18th, 2010 the Deming "Starmax/AFEC Entertainment Facility had not had a dramatic impact on GRT (Gross Revenue Tax) that was hoped for.) Maybe Doug Wood found out that the Deming Starmax/AFEC which our MAYOR and Some City Council members visited and fell in love with was "as of the end of April (2010) the county was substantially in the hole. The revenues generated from the bar and grill have come up very nicely". You can attack Councilman Wood whom I consider a MAN of HONOR for standing up for what he believes. You can attack me or just accuse people of the other cities as putting this out there because they are afraid of competition.

However you want to slant this the sources for this information comes from The Luna County Board of Commissioners website and the minutes of their meetings.(Apr 8th, Aug 12th, Nov 17th, Dec 9th, and Dec 2oth 2004.)(Apr 20th, May 11th, and Aug 10th, 2006.)(Feb 1, Feb 23, July 3rd, Sept 13th, Oct 11th, Dec 5th, 2007.)(Feb 14th, Feb 26th, Mar 28th, Apr 10th, May 28th, July 24th 2008).(Jan 8th, Mar 3rd, Mar 26th,*Apr 9th(Good One), June 23, Aug 4th, Nov 17th, 2009)(Jan 14th, Mar 11th, May 18th, June 10th, Jul 8th 2010) You may all thank Councilman Wood for doing his homework someday and ask the other council members to do theirs. This does not have to be the sinking of Albertville. Save the money now and use it to lure in LEGITIMATE RETAIL and MANUFACTURING Business.

If there is not a plan to control the thugs, rowdys ,and rednecks both inside and in the parking lot, people won't come. These people who "hang out" in parking lots acting like morons and intimidating customers like they do in Boaz and Madison Square Mall and Bridge Street in Huntsville will ruin a business. Security will need to be pro-active not retro-active. Also parents need to find out where their "little darlings" hang out and drive by and observe their behavior in public. Could be an eye opening experience.

I guess Albertville must be different than the other cities that have undertaken this project. In Gaffney South Carolina the company AFEC/SE went bankrupt. They are now calling themselves Starmax and the run the facility in Dening/Luna County New Mexico and according to the County Manager in Luna County in Apriol 2010 the county was substanially in the hole. Look it all up for yourself. There will be money made on this project. The sale of the land by Spurlin= Profit, The building of the facility by AFEC/Kellen/Spurlin/Albertvill e Investment Partners = Profit, The first year of the facility with AFEC/Albertville Investment Partners getting 75% of the revenue = Profit, funny I just don't see the city getting any profits.

The biggest problem I have is I am adamntly opposed to GOVERNMENT owning private business. It is very hard for any private company to compete with the governement and their unlimited supply of money. In times of trouble we panic and think oh we need this or we need to do that. There is a defintion for this S:(n) socialism (a political theory advocating state ownership of industry)S:(n) socialism, socialist economy (an economic system based on state ownership of capital) How much of our freedom are we going to continue to let the government have till we have none????
