As long as we can’t tell the difference between fiction and reality, we’ll keep buying the fiction like the Koches sell us, until we have spent all of our cash and can’t afford to buy either the real stuff or the made-up stuff anymore. Ideological blindness makes for decisions that feel good right now, but the costs just keep getting pushed on down the road.

Take this thing about cutting taxes and cutting spending: if we refuse to cut defense and Social Security and Medicare spending, and we refuse to raise taxes to pay for the stuff, then we’ll keep voting for these guys that promise us the impossible, and then getting mad and voting them out two years later, and then voting the next batch out two years after that, without ever paying our own way, the cost of the minimum requirements of government.

Whether it’s “tax and spend” or “tax-cut and spend,” there’s not much room in the budget to cut. Meanwhile, the oil industry makes tons of profits, while selling us petroleum for about a third of what the rest of the world pays ($9/gallon in Europe vs $3/gallon in the U.S.). You do the math.(And then, of course, go ahead and insult me for it.)

What I find most amusing are the people who believe that taxation of Americans is the thermostat for the planet.
They believe that if we pay enough taxes, global warming will not occur.Of course these are the same people who told us we would have category five hurricanes every year too.
What I find most amusing though are the people who believe that all of the evidence points to global warming. If I took all of my temperature readings at night I could predict global cooling and that the world must pay taxes to Americans or it will not stop.
The only thing wrong with the climate change theories being bantied about is their lack of data to support their conclusions.
In order for the global warming computer models to work they need to omit all data from volcanic activity.
Thus their predictions will only come true if no volcanoes erupt for 100 years.
Oh, I know the common left spot answer "The CO2 of volcanoes is nothing compared to the USA output" or some such trash. CO2 is but one of the gasses produced. Much more H2SO4 is produced plus ash which reflects heat and thus cools us.
No, they will pretend, but in the end they know very little about the climate and we don't need to pay them to sit back and make wild proclamations and pretend it is reality.
