Next step in dealing with a collection agency?A collection agency recently contacted me about a $1400 bill I supposedly owed to a rental agency I used over 3 years ago. I contacted the rental agency and asked what it was for. The reasons for the $1400 are all bull - they simply lost my paperwork and are trying to make it look like I just up and left one night. I don't have the old paperwork (I thought I didn't need it after hearing nothing from them for 3 years), but I can prove that what they are accusing me of is false; I have witnesses that can confirm what they are saying about me is wrong. I have already gotten statements from these witnesses and have had them notarized, and I have people on tape (legal in my state) stating things that go against the Tenant Rights Laws in my state. I'm angry, but mainly I just want this all to go away. I have told the collection agency that the claim is in dispute. Where do I go from here? How to I get this off my credit report? Do I have to go to small claims court? HELP!!!
