Kulongoski to pursue mileage tax

There are 11 comments on the www.dhonline.com story from Jan 11, 2009, titled Kulongoski to pursue mileage tax . In it, www.dhonline.com reports that:

A year ago, the Oregon Department of Transportation announced it had demonstrated that a new way to pay for roads — via a mileage tax and satellite technology — could work.

Now Gov. Ted Kulongoski says he’d like the legislature to take the next step.

(Could Other Democratic Governors Be Thinking Same?)

There is no excuse for this. Requiring GPS in all cars is just more "Big Brother" intrusion on privacy.

To say "gas tax isn't working" is a bullsh*t excuse if I ever heard one.

If cars now get twice the mileage, all they have to do is double the tax. That is as equitable, without the expense and intrusion, as GPS mileage monitoring.

This is bullshit - use the funds collected already for this - target and lock up funding so the money can't be used for anything but it's intended purpose - there will be enough. No more voodoo economics or trickle down - both are failed concepts.
