You may need to look up the history of Independence. The town was there before the Sicilian Imigrants came and setteled there. Also the Mexicans that work in the fields of Inedependence are no different than the Sicilian workers if you check your History.

I live in Independence, have all my life minus a few years that I was out of state. What I came back to is not the Independence I remember. That stupid shrimp plant being the first. Who's idea was it to allow that to stink up the town? The public schools are a joke. My son attends the elementary school, and is the only white student in his class. I bought him the best school supplies, and they were handed out to other students. And the teacher is being called "the B word" by disrespectful students in her class. We now have a new mayor, but when will the changes come? As far as growth goes, I came back because I like small town living, but if it means we have to grow to get this town cleaned up then I'm all for it. About the whole "mexican festival" goes, how about the people who are saying things like that go pick your own stupid strawberries if it bothers you so much.
