Remember when Smitty's was THE hang-out? Everybody circled around or either pulled in or backed in and socialized. Also had curb service--those were the days. Oh yeah, the food was GREAT,Albany hasn't been the same since it closed...
Remember when the dollar store was up town on the square?
The old SMITH's grocery store on the square also?
Come on people remind us of the good old days, let's hear it!

A hotel/gas station where advanced auto is and a drive in movie theatre where the iga plaza is and the middle school where burger king/ the bank/dollar general is and the teachers would let their classes walk over to 'greasy browns' once a week to get a treat, i always got jolly ranchers.

They should put up these old pictures in the court house where all can see like smiths store,smittys,stock barn,old highschool,and etc.

The dime store where Wanda White's office is now.Citizens Bank use to be where Eddie Lovelace's office is at now. Harveys was the name of the hotel/gas station where advance auto is located. Remember J&K Resturant they also had car hops. It was located where Lee's Famous Recipe is.

I'm sorry the dime store was on the square where Wanda's office use to be. I think there is a barber shop and something else in there now.I forgot Wanda had moved down the street by Lowhorns.

This is a great idea, it would give some roots back to the children of today.

To many that have no idea of what it was like to live in a time that neighbors got along and helped each other.

Problems yes, there has always been some but people were taught how to deal with them and the knew every one had to work together to build a community where our children could be safe and they knew how to enjoy life. Our kids have been robbed of this.

Chilton's five & ten...always brings back memories of my childhood. Never actually got to buy much because we were really poor but the looking and anticipation at Christmas! I first saw Santa there. He always sat in the back and you could hear the HO,HO,HO when you walked in.

My mom worked there for a while. I thought she had the greatest job that anyone could ask for. I loved to get an Icee everytime I went in there and go look at all the toys in the back.

Times were so much simpler back then. What happened to us?

Nobody wants it to be simple anymore everybody to me seems to want to be a bada$$ and for some reason think that they are better than everybody else and there kids have learned this and so this is the people we live with now in albany.

There is still good people in Albany, it is just we hear more from the smarta--s then we do others.

people have forgotten how to show respect and talk to others. And yes it is traits that they have been taught. People putting material things about all else in their lives.

And now we see what they have sowed.

Look at some old Clinton Co. High School Yearbooks. The Ads in the back show a lot of pictures of the old stores.

Use to be a dime store where first and farmers bank is on the square, Robert and Lorene Reneau ran it but it burned I think, also there was a coffee shop or something like it where wanda whites office is now. I remember going in there and drinking coke with a paper straw.
