My mom was born and raised in Albany and absolutely loved her. Mother left Albany in the 1940s but home is always home.

My husband works with several people who knew the family when she was in Albany,GA...We're very close to Albany in S.E.Alabama( native Alabamians)...The people who actually knew her said that they were not a poor family...Her husband owned a successful Nissan dealership and her mother & father's family both had money...And,both her sons were adults when she started her business..not little children that she was struggling to support...

Her husbands brother, Jerry was partner in Tanner-Deen Nissan. Jimmy who was her husband worked as a used car salesman on that lot before moving to Savannah. They were not wealthy, but made ends meet by be good, honest hard-working folks. Her father ran a used car lot in Albany in the 50's and her grandmother was a cook at River Bend out Highway 3 going towards Camilla. Her boys were just out of High School when she started "The Bag Lady"

She seems quite silly and corny. I think she is playing that backwoods crap because that is her meal ticket.(Or maybe she is really like that?)

Anyway, the food she makes seems appallingly unhealthy. No wonder she is fat.

I read a piece in the AJC about Paula and her sons. One went to Valdosta State and flunked out, and the other didn't go anywhere if I remember correctly. I guess they aren't that bright.

Oh well, I wish her the best with her program. She seems to be enjoying herself. Sometimes what she makes looks good though I can't imagine eating like that all the time. I guess the cardiologists appreciate her clientele.

I didn't know her husband owned a car dealership. We always got our cars from Pritchett Ford or Honda.

Times were hard for her after her divorce from Jimmy. She is genuine, good hearted and would go out of her way for family and friends. She's never forgotten her roots or the people who helped her when she was the Bag Lady. She does lay it on a bit thick with the southern drawal, but it helps with the marketing. No, her food is not healthy as true southern food is big on lard, whole butter and bisuits. We grew up on that stuff but led very active lives, so the weight and health were not problems. She is living the American Dream and turned her daily bag lunches into an empire. We are proud of what she has accomplished and she is an inspiration for all who would like to achieve something huge in this life. She found that (with a few lucky breaks contributing) and more. Her sons did help her out deliving lunches. One of the, I can't remember which, went his own way and didn't not help as much as the other boy. Paula treats them the same as a good mother should.

I just love Paula. This summer I went to Savannah for the first time and I love it there. I ate at The Lady and Son's and it was the best Southern food I have ever tasted ! Her fried chicken was the best I've ever had...and I have had a lot of chicken in my time! The butter beans, and mashed potatoes were great. I ate at Uncle Bubba's also,
I liked Lady and Son's the best.

I like Paula...plain and simple...she is over the top but that's what has given rise to her fame and fortune. I bow to her for being smart enough to see an opportunity and take it. How many folks see opportunities every day and pass them by. She is one smart cookie in my book.

i really like paula deen, however, she has embarassed me on a few shows with that little "ugly talk" in front of the men, but think she picked up from some of the audience that that was not going over too well, paula is truly a success story and very proud on her 5th avenue $200 shoes, no doubt, she earned them.

I was heartbroken when I found out she appeared on one of the late night shows and admitted that she had a 10 year affair with a married man. Surprisingly, that has not affected her popularity. I do wish she would chill on the flirting, touching, inappropriate commenting and kissing with the men she comes in contact with. Yes, southern women know how to party, but she is making herself look "common" and trashy. My daughter won't watch her anymore because of how she's acted on "Paula's Party". That's the only negative thing I can thing of about her.

Hi PBI, I love Paula and watch as often as I can. I alter her recipes so they're healthier while maintaining the same tastes of the comfort food I grew up on. I lived on the West Coast for a long time and missed my grits and soft corn meal and such until I befriended my grocer. He found that there were military folks and other Southerners craving the same things and soon we had fresh okra in season, etc. It worked for him also. Try ordering boiled peanuts online from Lee Brothers at www.boiledpeanuts.com , google boiled peanuts, or ask your grocer to order canned ones - not as good as fresh but will do. I buy Publix brand (try others if you don't have Publix)frozen field peas and use a T. of olive oil, a t. of sugar (cuts bitterness and softens), and 1/2 t. lemon pepper - boil and keep simmering for about 45 minutes until they loose their crunchiness or to your taste. I use 5 times as much water as peas because it will reduce and I LOVE pot liquor over my cornbread and biscuits (I freeze extra for a great breakfast treat and add to soup stock). Here's to good eatin' from the South!

On one of paulas party shows, she did the "meat rub" with those guys and i was mortified watching the show alone. she went way past southern cooking and embarassed the guys to death. since then, i dont watch her. Lifes enough with dirty old men, its really disgusting when its a dirty old woman, just my opinion.

I thought foodnet work had codes for their people, not to talk dirty or act dirty. Food network is one of the few shows on tv that I thought had good values and would never ever allow Paula to act like a dirty old woman. She is not funny anymore especially with her false laughter and falling all over the men.

Her behavior with Rose O'donald was so fake and over the top. It is just come down to a real crazy format for you all to try and make Paula anthing more than a cook.

I heard she is jumping ship and going on her own. That is good news because she will not last trying to be something she is not.
