I researched Boeing's press releases to find out how much the Super Hornet's price has changed over the last decade. Even as the company introduced the Block II Super Hornet/Growler with active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, the price has steadily declined. Keep in mind these figures don't include 'actuals'-- Congressional plus-ups make true cost comparisons impossible. But the trend is clear.

•MYP 1 (June 2000)-- orders 222 aircraft for $8.9 billion, or $40.09 million per copy. Adjusted for inflation based on consumer price index:$49.45 million (2009 dollars)
•MYP 2 (December 2003)-- orders 210 aircraft for $8.6 billion, or $40.95 million per copy. Adjusted for inflation based on consumer price index:$47.65 million (2009 $), a 7.6% decrease
•MYP 3 (September 2010)-- orders 124 aircraft for $5.3 billion, or $42.72 million per copy, a 10.4% decline compared to MYP-2 and 13.6% decline compared to MYP-1
LOOKS LIKE THE PRICE IS DECLINING...

C & D Models are cheaper at 29 million.

Price/Unit Cost: In 2012, the unit cost of an F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is $66.9 million (flyaway cost) or $80.1 million incl. support costs. The airframe costs $39.04 million, the two F414-GE-400 engines cost $9.03 million ($4.52 million each), and the avionics cost $6.12 million.

That is still 919 million away from your billion cost per plane...

Your link does not work.
It does not cost a billion dollars per plane as you said...you cannot add all the extra costs and years to get to a billion dollars, you are acting like Ralph....
Show a valid lonk...
the FA-18 Super Hornet is 55 million per plane.........no where near a billion....just admit you made a mistake....
And of course show where it costs 40 million per plane to operate.
Kimbo Slice concedes a typo in an my previous post. It should read million not billion. However the cost of the program to tax payers is well into the billions, which is the point. The reasons airshows are cancelled is because they cost hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars Ralph.

Dear cubic asssfuck there is no link to not work. I clearly state in my post the cost is approximately $57 million per plane in 2006 US Dollars. Learn how to read. Yes there was an earlier typo. Everyone makes typos. For instance in your last post here you misspelled link and put "lonk" so get over yourself.

Yes the Services do have programs that costs millions per year to keep operational. Until Congress gets serious about cutting their waste thru earmarks and other gimmicks, We the taxpayers are doomed.

Thank You for your correction..Have a good night.

It is a shame that Topix does not force all user's of Topix to register, that would reduce those who feel Topix is there play ground to attack with no content of facts or related subject opinions.
