Group responsible to spruce up White Sands Boulevard hits snag with Alamogordo commission

May 4, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Alamogordo Daily News

The future of the White Sands Beautification Committee remains uncertain and at least one member feels the committee was not given a fair shot at discussing its recommendations to the commission.

We are really not interested in cleaning up any areas of our trashy town. We might lose our reputation of being the best ghetto in the state. Keep Alamo trashy!

As long as the City is going to pay (the Mayor calls it "incentivize")for the commercial property owner to improve the looks of property he/she is not interested in improving at his/her own expense we, the taxpayers (who will foot the bill to "incentivize"),shoul d be all for it -- after all these poor commercial property owners (free market capitalists???) would have to spend some of their own money (profits) to improve the appearance of their property if the City doesn't step-up to pay for it.

Stay tuned for the Commissions next big plan to spend taxpayers money to improve commercial enterprise!!!

Taxpayers should not foot the bill for local property owners, bussinesses to clean up and paint there property.

The city should look at there own areas that need work first.

Glad I live in the county. Your mayor is really full of herself, and as it turns out a true progressive. Watch your wallets Alamogordo.

County Commissioners have spent money on projects that are questionable too.

Here's another story about our city commission... we don't have to worry - our city commision is used to getting nothing good accomplished.(1) Moving the old railroad depot building,(2) The Flickenger renovation.(3) Plaza Pub,(4) Family Fun Center,(5) interconnecting bike trails,(6) library,(7) economic development,(8) industrial park,(9) updating outdated ordinances....... Why in the world did anyone thing they were ACTUALLY going to do ANYTHING with White Sands Blvd?.... The commission in this town has a history of not getting things done for the past 25+ years. It was a given the study group was going to fail.
Care to comment Ms. Mayor?

The family fun center, and library were turned down by the voters as well they should have.

Cannot argue with what you've said. And the city itself is just as negligent, by their inactions.
The city itself seems only concerned with a few choice streets, and areas, as thier priorities, otherwise the rest of the city can remain looking like haitain shanty town dumps.
The never ending turning of a blind eye cannot be quoted in weeks, or months, but years, many years where nothing is done.
I'm not aware of a body count, but it seems like this city has only one code enforcement officer. And when a nifty little city project comes along, such as at the golf course, etc, the rest of the city goes on a back burner, and citizens are commonly left to wallow in their subhuman neighbor's waste, and other various code violations.
The city for too long has relied upon citizens, lazy ones at that to maintain areas, and properties, and it isn't working. Never has, and never will. Seems the city themselves cannot afford to allocate monies for trash, and weed abatement crews, that by enforcing code, if you won't clean the properties, and areas up yourselves, we will, and we will then send you the bill. Probably they figure it's a lost cause, try collecting, like trying to squeeze water from a rock, huh?
Weeds sprouting all over sidewalks, streets, curbs and gutters, alleys, yards, yet no one takes responsibility.
Streets that it's hard to distinguish whether they're pavement, or gravel. Alleys that one literally needs a Bob Chandler Bigfoot Monster Truck to navigate.
Only maybe where some political figures live, then action is taken, otherwise, nothing changes here, and never will.

I know someone who got fined for a trashy yard. The fine was attached to his water bill.
