I am a bargain shopper and I always go to the goodwill. Does anyone else think it was overpriced. I mean I know the stuff is cheap. But some of the items are way to expensive for them being used. Anyone else agree? Or is just me

I agree. There are times that I have gone in there and found things with the Wal-mart tag still on it, and goodwills price will be higher then Wal-mart. Really sad.

I only go there to look at the painting with frames, you never know if someone made a mistake and donated a "masterpiece".

Yes! I never go in there any more unless I'm desperate to find something odd for a program - and then I always wondered why I bothered. I've found the same thing -$20 for a used, beat-up book shelf when you can get one new for that price at Walmart?!

When goodwill prices a used t-shirt at 4 or 5 dollars yes, it is too high. Wal Mart has Fruit of the Loom brand shirts NEW for LESS than 5 dollars.

ABsolutelty, As already posted, I find things at Walmart cheaper. I like to hit goodwills whenever I travel and ours here is much more expensive. I wonder if there is a pricing system they should have to follow and why they don't. Would be intresting to investivate.

I am curious. WHERE is the goodwill store in Alamo?

I am not there a lot, but I have never seen it. I THINK I have seen Salvation Army on White Sands.

I have not been in Zia. I have been in Kings Treasure and Father Hayes. Both nice.

Goodwill in on 10th Street near College Ave. Years ago it was where the old TG&Y store was.

I quit going to Goodwill because their prices are way too high. I do the same thing as HOC. If I am looking for something specific, I go there and then wonder why I did.

Zia, King's Treasure, Fr. Hays, and Salvation Army are usually more reasonably priced. However, there are times that I wonder if those stores realize they are a thrift store.

I shop at a thrift store because I cannot afford to buy new. People donate to help the thrift store make money. If they are over priced and I cannot afford, who wins??? This is what I think they have a tendency to forget.

I would rather buy new, but if my budget does not allow for it, I still need to have office cloths for my job. If Walmart is only a couple of dollars more, why buy used??? Sometimes, even Penneys has 75% off sales that are cheaper. So I really watch. Buying at the Thrift Stores, you have to look closely for stains, missing pieces, or rips. So I am quite the shopper, often times leaving empty handed.

Books are usually fairly good. If you find any. Little treasures can be found, I do enjoy finding little treasures that no one else really wants but I may have a particular use for. What is sad is when you find a little unique treasure that really isn't worth anything, and they want a lot of money for. My granddaughter picked out a doll once, just an old doll, not worth anything or a collector's item. They wanted $6. WHAT??? They tried to tell me it was a collector's item. Please!!! My granddaughter loved the doll, but I finally talked the girl down to $4. and it was not even worth that. But the $4. was worth my granddaughter's smile.(I would have paid $6. for that smile!)

Totaly agree with everyone about Goodwill. Overpriced and often damaged and dirty items!

Commuity Connection is good, too, and supports several charities. Haven't been there since they moved, but might just make it today. Their prices are reasonable, and they actually TEST the toys that require batteries, so you aren't buying a toy that turns out not to work. They do appear to check clothing and bedding for stains and tears, etc.- haven't noticed any there, anyway.

I am a big fan of Kings Treasure, both the store and their vision.
as to Goodwill...
wow, dirty
high prices
I see them clear the shelves often, throwing away the $5 and $10 items that should have been sold for a $1 tops.
I don't get it...they are not paying for it...they get the stuff FREE...
and gosh the manager...what a sweetie... ;<
We have a goodwill here in my new town, it is high, but some quality stuff and every 3 months they have a 1/2 price day...cleans out alot!
Zia is a great one, and like Miss Kathie said, community connections has some jewels.
the salvation army got a bit of dated stuff.
There is a great thrift up in Ruiodos...the Pink Ladies Auxiliray from the hospital...the staff is always smiling and kind and prices (great specials)
Can you tell I love to thrift?
when we go on vacation, first thing I do is find the thrifts!!

I am not going to lie and call the manger there at the good will a sweetie. I think she is a down right mean old lady. Its horrible to hear hr talk and i am sure she takes some of the good stuff they donate there. I am very upset to even have the goodwill in this town. Its is way too overpriced and i think someone should do something about it. A extension cord for 4 dollars...and toddler clothes for 3 dollars might as well go to walmart.

$2.00 for some grimy electric lamp cords without one of the ends is a bit much. Of course, you do get a lot of free exercise trying to untangle the rat's nest of cords, cables, string and other crap just to get a look-see.

There is an animal rescue thrift shop you might add to your list. It is up on Indian Wells - somewhere near Pecan (or possibly Cornell). I don't know the area well enough up there, but the folks are really nice and helpful.

I only go into Goodwill when I'm looking for something specific and the other thrift stores or discount stores (Walmart or Kmart or Dollar Store)don't have what I'm looking for. Otherwise I go to Walmart/Kmart as I have found a lot of Goodwill's prices are more expensive than Walmart or Kmart's price. They have always been too high price on most of their stuff.
