Something wrong with a place that will bring that into their county. Apparently, others question whether the facility can do the job. Write to your Delegation and the County.

Really, well then where do you suppose these criminals should go? Do you think they should even be locked up? Why not bring these thugs here and create more jobs where jobs are needed. If they break out of jail it's not like they are going to be hanging around Alamogordo. And who is my delegation?

Whatever the opinion on 300 sex offenders moving to the county, shouldnt there be due dilligence to have an open communication with the citizens regarding this issue? Particularly ones living close by who may have concerns?

actually none of your business how a private company runs their business. Do you want them to pick and choose which type of criminals thay would take? Then they wouldn't be a prison. Get real..

The county does have a say. They own the property - the prison pays them a portion of revenue.

It's like renting a house and then having the landlord come in and tell you how to furnish it. Not going to happen. You need to get your facts straight and until you do don't post again..

Im in awe of the commission for passing their budget authority to two employees who will determine what every department in county government is able to buy or spend. I guess we'd better be on their good side! I doubt these two employees, Pam and Donna, made any cuts in their own operating budget? Could they do better than the Feds and actually pass a 2% cut?

It must be a tough job with 3 commissioners who spend on every whim. Balancing that budget would be near impossible with Herrell, Flores and Rardin at the wheel. What's the latest idea, a community compliance department, owning a pellet mill? It keeps growing and growing.

Im curious about the commissioners always saying they are out of money and then starting new projects and departments. It seems the only taxes that they have been able to increase, are the ones they have forced upon the people by a 3 person commission vote. It seems 2 other proposed taxes, quality of life, and spaceport were widely voted down by the people. Who are these commissioners representing, besides themselves????

All this sequester talk and we have big spender commissioners. Flores is going to Washington DC on a trip paid by county tax dollars. Why is that necessary?????

The commission has not cut their own expenses, but have put into the budget as of the 14th, cutting nonessential community services..COPE, Flickinger, couseling center, CHINS, search and rescue, and the list goes on. Doesnt it make sense to cut nonessential expenses in their own budget?

This commission is so far out of hand with their priorities that it makes you wonder who is getting paid off! They cut the important things like you listed. But even when Flores says she and the public are opposed to the pellet plant she voted to spend tax dollars to see if this failed private business is something the county should buy.
Not to mention their over $400.00 each for coyotes and feral hogs. Herrell and Flores were both opposed to continuing this waste of tax dollars but when all was said and done they voted to continue it.
And then of course Ratdin, corked as a dogs hind leg! Supports anything he can as long as he makes the big bucks in questionable travel expenses.

Needs to be at future county meetings to keep watch of the elected commissioners. No good complaining about it after the fact and vote passed if you weren't there to speak in opposition. Careful though, since they make budget decisions behind closed doors. Snakes!

I must say, I truly enjoy reading about 'Who's watching the County' and all that this lengthy and whiney thread entails. I guarantee that half of the responses on this thread alone are from disgruntled County employees themselves (you know, the ones that have been there for years that just sit on their butts and complain AND get paid WAY TOO MUCH for it). And, for the ones who are not the ever so privelaged to work there, no matter who the commission is and what side of the fence you sit, there is always going to be someone who is complaining. How many times have I read in this thread alone that Rardin is not a favorite,(and now the other two as well because of how a vote was done)? If you want any of them out so bad, why did you vote them in? There are ways of replacing a commissioner if the people petition it. Geez, stop the belly aching already. Let's get back to really WHO IS WATCHING THE COUNTY. If you are really that interested, attend a meeting once in a while. Speak up. Petition. Run for office. Complain to the Manager. If you can't attend a meeting, watch it online, or better yet, call the county and ask them directly what you want to know. I know, though, that some of you don't want to know the facts before you come on this honest board and share your rants. I'm just happy that today, I was able to get a great deal of pleasure reading through the wonderful words of wisdom here as my form of entertainment. Great job, my friends, and keep up the good work!

I watch the county commission meetings online since it's hard to attend when they meet during the day, and they look as incompetent as they sound in todays ADN article about the pellet plant. First they voted for the study contract, then they voted against it. Sounds like John Kerry. What's truly disturbing is that these 3 commissioners are in charge of millions of our tax dollars and they rarely do their homework before taking action on "ideas" that pop into their heads. There will be people who run against them next year and they will have many issues on which to run against them.
