DoD Plan Will Force 171,000 Off TRICARE Prime

According to a recent article by Tom Philpott, Defense officials are expected to soon announce that military retirees and their dependents that live more than 40 miles from a military treatment facility or BRAC (base closure) site will lose access to TRICARE Prime as early as next April.

This move could force as many as 171,000 retirees to shift to TRICARE Standard, which would mean an increase in out-of-pocket costs especially those with special needs dependents or other chronic health issues.

It is important to note that active duty members and their families wont be impacted. However, military retirees and their families are not the only ones to be hit by the move. In his article, Philpott points out that some drilling Guard and reserve members enrolled in TRICARE Reserve could also see increases in health costs.

Thanks US Government, You broke promises to the Indians, Now you have come full circle and broke your promise to those who full filled their contract with you.

All the more reason to expand health care for all. The talk is about a national single-payer health care, which would put doctors back to work with health care and away from the present sick care. The military does have special needs for doctors and staff that can handle military injuries, but they also need family doctors to take care of family needs. Tricare served its purpose, but it is now the time for change that will benefit everyone except maybe the health insurance companies who have been sucking the wealth out of sick people for generations now.

You say that because you don't have tricare! Typical liberal. Let them come after your welfare health insurance and you will be crying all over town!

This current President i do believe made a commet that said it would take 15 years to get single payer as the only health care system in America.

Regardless of what system is used, A verbal contract was created by recruiters and reenlisting officers that "Free health care and dental" for life if you served till retirement eligible, Now those who fulfilled that contract are being treated like the "Indians".

171,000 is a low ball number i believe..And the next logical step will be to find a way to reduce costs even more, charge bigger deductibles, and eventually have no health care system at all.

Sad day for the military community, and a sure sign that no one is safe from the forked tongue of Uncle Sam.

Fifteen years to get single payer, IF we wait for government to act. Much sooner when we apply people pressure to our timid representatives.

At this time we don't really have health care. We have an insurance driven trickle-down sick care system with limited preventative options. We also have a mind-set among conservatives that health care belongs only to those with enough money to keep the health insurance executives in the top 1 percent. This position decreases with age.

Health care is not only medicinal, but also dental, vision, mental, recreational, and diet. Eating crap, sitting in front of a TV, over-working oneself, working a shit-job, not exercising the mind, is killing people more often than old-age.

Another thing: some people here on topix are filled with hate and venom toward anyone they don't like, which is almost everybody. You are killing yourselves! The Buddhist say that every time you feel hate, you have lost a day of your life. They don't mean that figuratively. You don't have to like anybody, just lose the hate.

So only if you were disabled during combat, What about those Veterans who have no physcial injuries yet are rated at 100% disabled because of PTSD, Agent Orange, and those injured during peace time and during training.

A lie is a lie, regardless of how you broke the promise.
