Sam, who says his many jobs were in a short span of time? He looks like he has a number of years on him. Why are people so quick to be negative, give the guy a chance to do a challenging job. Good luck Mr. Roath and congratulations on your new job here in Alamogordo.

His undergraduate degree and his masters are poly sci and public administration so what if he also has a law degree. Public Admin is as good of a fit as a business degree. I wish him well in his new position and hope that some of the naysayers will just keep the negativity to themselves.

To sam adn Holy Cow, on the comments about the new city managers work history. A wuick trip onto the internet reveals in one article, the following:

"Roath has been North Port's city manager since 2000. He has held several city manager positions since 1982, spending approximately two to three years at each position.

Prior to becoming North Port's city manager, Roath served the city of Oxford, Ohio, from 1997 to 2000; the city of North Platte, Neb., from 1994 to 1997; the city of Sapulpa, Okla., from 1992 to 1994; the city of Coweta, Okla., from 1989 to 1992; the city of Copperas Cove, Texas, from 1984 to 1985; and the city of Weslaco, Texas, from 1982 to 1984. "

He left Nort Port in 2004 for Wylie, where the council terminated his contract in 2007. He then moved on to McAlister. He is now the lucky candidate for Alamogordo's city manager job.

The reasons for the many job changes may be purely personal and maybe he had a chance to move up on the pay scale with each move, a reason why many people move. With the exception of Wylie, where he was terminated, you will not know about any other work history without getting down into the weeds with those other cities. His history is his history. Now he is a part of Alamogordo's history and Alamogordo is a part of his history.

Good, bad, or in between, he is "Mr. Lucky" in Alamogordo today. I wish the city and Mr. Roath good luck in their relationship. The clock starts in October for whatever length of time he is in the city.

I will try this again, since my first attempt went to the Topix pool in the sky.

The new city manager selectee has a history that can be read on the Internet, and one article reveals this,
"Roath has been North Port's city manager since 2000. He has held several city manager positions since 1982, spending approximately two to three years at each position.

Prior to becoming North Port's city manager, Roath served the city of Oxford, Ohio, from 1997 to 2000; the city of North Platte, Neb., from 1994 to 1997; the city of Sapulpa, Okla., from 1992 to 1994; the city of Coweta, Okla., from 1989 to 1992; the city of Copperas Cove, Texas, from 1984 to 1985; and the city of Weslaco, Texas, from 1982 to 1984."

Some of his moves were for pay increases and a chance for a better job. The job in Wylie resulted in a termination by the council. Reasons were not given, as they seldom are when someone in a position like that is "terminated."

Maybe he will be good for Alamogordo, maybe not. The future will tell. May all of you have a good run with him as the manager, and may you find a way to get things done that really need doing. Maybe he will stick around for more than two to three years.

Good luck.

And what makes you so certain that he will be unable to change the paradygm of the council? Would it have to do with the entrenched relationships with the special interest groups in town?

I have no clue as to what you are talking about, care to clarify? when you talk about the "guy beat federal inquiries" are you talking about Griggs or the new city manager? Please cite your sources of information or is your source "someone told me"?

talking about griggs, that criminal.. as for the federal complaints, I have filed them.. I will not give out the other sources.. He has his seat reserved in hell, right next to lawyers and car salesmen.. Just watch what activities you are involved in with him.. Federal justice takes time and everyone involved:)
