Realist, you are the one with a short memory. I have no agenda here except to see the bar raised. We have not done that , nor has LJ tried to do that. I have nothing against Day. I was there before, as I am now, cheering the program However, your statement above is untrue, and easy to prove. I will not go further except to say that Day's one year in Snook Tx, and his four years in Onalaska can be reviewed by at least three web sites. As for his stint in Alamogordo, we did not make the final four all four years. His last year was his best, at 19-7. He upset La Cueva in the regionals and made a run to the finals. We were the twelve seed and did not win our district. The boys played well at the pit, and I would give credit to any coach that got that team to the finals.

I will not post about his less productive seasons, but they do include one that involved no post season play at all, and another that ended in the round of eight. Maxpreps only began keeping records in 2005-2006, but there is an interesting web page that has a spreadsheet about the tournament history, how many games were won, and what level a team advanced. There are at least two more web sites available, with individual game scores and season records.

None of this matters at this time, as much as what he does now. But you and others that have allowed for the destruction of the Tiger Program that DID have an agenda should at least be truthful.

Agree that the past has no relevance with the evaluation of this years team, however, for the benefit of the young men who were involved in the program from 2002-2006, I think it is important to get the facts straight.
2002-2003 - 14-11 District Champs, Lost to Sandia in Albuquerque Pit in Final Four.
2003-2004 - 22-6 District Champs. Lost to Cibola in Albuquerque Pit in Final Four.
2004-2005 - 14-14 District Runner-up. Regular Season District Champs. Lost to Gadsden in District Championship Game in Tiger Pit. Lost to Eldorado in Albuquerque Pit in Final Eight Game.
2005-2006 - 21-11 Third Place District Finish, Lost to Manzano in State Finals in Albuquerque Pit.

Last year, I experienced having a son in Madden's program. Now, I have had the PLEASURE of Day's program. They are like night and day; no pun intended. This season, kids know practice times, freshmen aren't walking over to Mid High only to have the coaches cancel, players aren't afraid to shoot the ball as long as they are playing within the offense, the freshmen don't feel like outsiders because they get an opportunity to do drills with the older kids and all coaches communicate with the kids on all the teams. I like what I see with the progress this program is making.

I do agree that the low post players need to be more aggressive. NO COACH can teach hustle. Each kid has to have a personal "want" for the ball. I've seen too many fadeaways by our big. Our two starting guards, TJ and Tyler, are the backbone of OUR team but the can't do it alone.

Had the pleasure/displeasure of watching the Alamogordo/Hobbs game last night. Do the fans of Alamogordo always cry of that much? One of the worst crowds I've seen all year. I was siting behind the scorers table and could see all the "fans" on the opposite side. One person stuck out like a sore thumb. The bald guy in the yellow shirt. Who is this guy? Former Tiger? I'm guessing not since he was pretty clueless on what was happening during the game. Learn the game before you scream and hollar about EVERYTHING!!!

Hobbs crushes Alamo every year. It's been that way for years. That's not really a game to be a "scout" at.

yeah scout we have a bunch of clueless fans in alamogordo but we also have a lot of people here that know the game and how it should be played. yeah hobbs really took it to us but we are still feeling the after effects of the last coach who was clueless for 6 long years. it may take a season or two to get back our tiger tradition but i for one feel that we are at least getting back to that high level of play. so please dont put us all in the same category as that bald headed loud mouth! me personnaly have confidence that in future, Tiger pit will be once again an intimidating place to play....

Hmmm. The soft pre-district schedule is looking pretty good right now. I think that was the point of starting this thread. But does it help us in the overall scheme of things. Yes, if we can pick up some district wins along the way. We will, but I am not sure if being in the bottom half of the district and receiving a bid to the "mythical" state tournament round of SIXTEEN will get us a home game or even a game we can win. Gotta get some wins.

Juice, I might agree that Day did not inherit a very good program this time around, but most would say he inherited the best one in the state the last time around.

all this and day still can't see that he has a gap in the team! No team ball two players STILL do not understand that they cannot win the game without there team! Second string comes in and place team ball and looks great???? Come on day if your stars can't play team ball sit them untill they learn......there's players on the first string that want to walk because of this!

playing cold out of town and playing good in town.... I believe in these guys...Thats the first step in a winning team "outside observer". Ive seen what they CAN do theyjust haven't put it together a whole game... trust each other look for the weak link on the other team and take advatage. If they finally start trusting each other there good! they have the outside they have the inside they have the weapons to win!

Big J , I don't disagree that the "could" do something. NOW is the time. You said before that our team is dangerous and no one would want to play them when it counts. It counts NOW. We "could" be dangerous. We have size, quickness, length, depth, athletic ability. We have played a soft schedule, whether you agree or not. I was hoping that would mean more wins for us. We both agree that this team has possibilities. But we are running out of time, and I believe we are right where I said we might be in the very first post of this forum. Exactly where I said we would be. I am happy that Day's senior son has found a home where he can get a scholarship to play at a Juco or Div 3 school. I am more concerned with the team chemistry now toward the end of the season when it counts. We have not moved forward, and a one point win at Gadsden and a blowout at home against Mayfield means one thing. We have done to those two programs what everyone else has. Mayfield's big upset of Onate once again opens the door for us, let's both hope we take advantage of it.

Well the tigers have proved that they CAN play ball with the number two team in the state. If you would have seen the last game you would have seen how lucky cruces was in that game. A older ref calling Fouls way away from the ball when other refs were right there. I saw day planted hands straight up and cruces gets the call are big put out of the game by the same ref. But your right the chemistry is what's held us back I have seen it start to get better and then go right back to zero??? I don't think It's going to get any better at this point ...it should have been worked on from the start. I guess It's hard for the seniors to play ball with under classmates??

I really do think things will be better next season as far as chemistry goes. I have a gut feeling that something might change. I will not comment. I don't think this season is completely lost. With our early wins, and hopefully a few more in district, we will make the round of sixteen. There are just not that many team in 5A, and sixteen is a high percentage. Lots of bottom feeders this year as well, that are eliminated already. That will put us in, don't know where though. A road game more than likely.

I agree with you about chemistry. I haven't really seen this effort as one that is focused on building a long term program. It has been ran as a do or die season, with the emphasis on seniors. Most programs are run that way. It will all work out. Not sure about when.

This should be a senior heavy team because a a majority of the younger kids need to be sitting and watching. Just because a kid has size doesn't make him the next "big" thing. JJ and Yates are legit big guys that can play some ball. Mills needs some more time and could probably use some time at the JV level to learn the game.
