I worked at BB's when it first opened...and I think I remember Roger too! I had a great experience there and the Vances are very nice people. I am looking for the white rice recipe which I crave every time I cook fish. Please let me know if anyone might have it!

I know the answer barnacle bills was a break off part of bill millers thus the "bill", although it was a break off it was not directly owned by the millers it was owned by their brother in law louis vance. the food was good but was having trouble competing with local food giants such as sea island and due to poor storaging and packing alot of the fish was going bad and causing a capital loss. Fish is not like bbq, it cannnot be stored for more than days in a freezer after it has hit open air the vance's were not aware of this till the loses were out of hand. Pounds and pounds of fish were thrown out everynight, in an attempt to raise customer interest barnacle bills started cooking the past due fish and giving it out for free, this at first worked until a young child be came extremly ill and barnacle bills was sued. To cover it up a settlement was quickly made and barnacle bills was closed overnight

Qui Que wrote: Sorry, new at this. What I would like to know is the recipe for Barnacle Bill's onion rings. Can anyone help me with this? As a consumer and not a former employee, I too am deeply dissappointed that this place closed its doors. But I would like to duplicate their onion rings for my kids who absolutely loved them. Look for an onion ring recipe that uses more flour than cornmeal. I remember them as very light, and most cornmeal-based recipes are pretty heavy. I am looking for their gumbo recipe!

They definately would not have sold bad fish. Their fish was delivered several times a week. They may have been jerks, but they weren't stupid.

I heard they would put a jar of mayonaise in the sun and then call it homemade tarter sauce. Yum, Yum...

Jennifer wrote: I cannot believe this happened! It's so strange! I worked at Barnacle Bill's for about 2 years (1998-2000) when I was still in high school. I left San Antonio (and Barnacle Bill's) in 2000 to move to Corpus Christi for college and have been here since. But, I have always remembered my employment at BB. I enjoyed all of my co-workers and I enjoyed chatting with Paul, Jeff, and Scott. They were always such nice people and I am baffled they would do this. The company paid WAY above minimum wage and I NEVER felt mistreated when I was there. Yes, I know that was 7 years ago, but I don't understand how it could have all changed in any drastic way to now be ready about "rumors the employees were mistreated". This is so confusing! I wish the best for all the employees and I'm sorry this happened to y'all. I really hope some light is shed on this situation SOON. That's "old"
