I just watched your broadcast on the mountain lion and wanted to say what I believe are too many wrong assumptions as reported by the community, the police, the Fish and Game and your broadcast.
It has been my experience that mountain lions will attack a child even with the mom nearby, so do not assume that a few children even four or five walking as a group will scare off a mountain lion.
Mountain lions are likely to attack during day if they choose to do so. So do not assume that closing the park at night is a solution for the day time hours.
Once a mountain lion attacks the only thing that is going to scare it off at a minimum is a man beating it with a large stick as many times as it takes and note the mom, another adult, is again nearby and possibly helping beat the mountain lion as well. Do you think a small group of children are going to pick up a large stick and beat on the mountain lion once it has a child’s head in its bite?
Just because the police department reported that “did not display any aggressive behavior and moved away down the creek, police reported.: does not mean anything except an event that took place in the past. A mountain lion is pretty aggressive or not afraid of people if it is hanging out where people pass by! Any predator wild animal can turn on people.
I am able to tell if a life will be threatened before it occurs and in 1985 or so I was on a mountain with my pregnant wife and my 4 year old son and a friend of his. I knew of a mountain lion attack before it happened and it happen when we were at the top of a mountain. I also had warned my wife earlier before we started our walk but she just dismissed it. I am willing to help find your mountain lion either with Danville Police or Fish and Game.
I work Thursday through Monday so the only time is 6:00 am to 8:30 am that I am available or on Tuesday or Wednesday day. I have computer science class Monday and Wednesday evening so I am not available in the evenings.
I believe that someone will be attacked by the mountain lion.
