Curb traffic and smog

THE twin ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are major economic engines for Southern California.

How do we know that the money would do anything to reduce pollution or traffic?
How much would just be spent on studies, consultants and political appointees? How would we know it would make any difference at all? If the ports just ran 24 hours a day, economics would cause the trucks to run after hours, traffic and smog would be reduced, it would probably lower gas prices (how much diesel is wasted by trucks sitting in traffic), and everybody would be better off. As it is, more taxes will just drive the ships to the new port being built in Mexico, the products will be transported into the US on Mexican trucks (thank you George Bush) of questionable safety and environmental standards, losing American jobs, and I could go on.

On a serious note here LSSR,
Do you think they`re not going start docking in Mexico anyway? Get your head out of the clouds. When the ports are built and functional enough to handle the load we do, Mexico will become the top port of call. The Mexican truckers, who currently are on our roads, will quadruple when this happens. The Mexican truckers, are already contracted to deliver many goods that were shipped and offloaded HERE already. You can kiss the American trucking industry goodbye! This is not a question of "if", but WHEN!
