Let me guess, this is probably near the Kenmore leg again?

Near the 77 and 76 interchanges would be the Central Interchange I believe... another "bright spot" for Akron travelers

This is one of the most dangerous intersections I've seen in my 20 years of driving, including the 76 Eastbound leg which moves traffic to 76 East, Rt 8 North and 77 South to Canton. The entrance ramp from Grant Ave. enters this vein of traffic and causes a great deal of traffic conflict in this area. I have tried to make a formal complaint with ODOT previously and was given the brush-off, being told that construction was planned for this area. That was 3 years ago.

And to add to the bad situation they have now installed one of those enormous digital displays right before the interchange on Rt. 8 south. Brilliant!!

from akronnewsnow.com --- two things are going on near the central interchange ... and tanker is overturned leaking bleach ... and a reported 6-7 car pile up with possible injuries --- it does not say the two accidents are related.

You have to wonder who designed the central interchange? I have been to a lot of cities in my lifetime, and none has anything as bad as Akron's.

76 West coming the other way is down to one lane because of a 7-car pile-up.

I guarantee the cause of this accident was due to rubber-neckers trying to catch a glimpse of the tanker that flipped over on the other side of the highway!

Rubber-neckers for sure.

Hopefully they get this moving by 5pm or else Route 8 will be a mess in both directions come rush hour.

Well, to be fair, it WAS designed in the late 1800's, when most of the traffic was farm carts.

Bad designs in this city's expressways. Good thing Akron is shrinking; someday the traffic will be very light and accidents will be almost non existent. lol
Seriously, hope no one was hurt.

It wouldn't be so bad if morons would just slow down and let people over when they need over. Eveyone is in such a hurry and don't care about anyone around them.

The father of high school chum of mine was on the original design team back in the 1950s (I guess I shouldn't mention he was from West Virginia). The old man told him the entire Interstate system had nothing to do for the general public, in spite of what Ike sang about. Story goes, it was primarily for interstate commerce (commercial truck traffic).

Grump, I believe you're likewise old enough to realize the good neighborhoods that were destroyed by running the thing right through the middle of Akron rather than by encircling it.

The old man said it was designed for the amount of traffic projected through the 1960s, not the 21st century three-car-or-more-household America.

Progressive tried that scam on me a few years ago. They said the only reason rates went up was that they were making my rates comparable to other people who own the same car as me within the same age group, irregardless of MY PERSONAL driving record, which is very good as a matter of fact. I switched to another company and saved about $30.00 per month.

Sorry to butt back in here. If you've ever been to Boston or St. Louis (two that come immediately to mind), you can find examples on a larger scale where stable neighborhoods carved up and their property values destroyed by expressways plowed thru them.

BTW, welcome back, Grumpster.

It also wouldn't be so bad if morons figured out that the left-lane is for passing and moved over when faster traffic approaches from behind. I can't tell you how many idiots I have had to pass on the right, because they are camped in the left-lane, doing the posted limit or less, and refuse to get over.
