Looks like somebody's going to be getting some large amounts of hate mail and terrible e-mails. It's like Pandora's box. Once you say something hateful, especially towards the family, it cannot be taken back.

I went to High School with Kyle and He was always such a nice caring person. It is horrible that this had to happen to such a great guy. I live near where the accident took place and it is very dark out there at night. Anything could have happened, and while it may not have been the best idea to go walking in the dark so late Akron/Clarence is a very safe area and I could understand why he would think nothing of going out so late.

I am the mother of the young lady that witnessed Kyle being run over.It is a nightmare for everyone concerned and some of the comments are incredibly ignorant and void of fact and reason.Where the hell is the driver of the truck and why no arrest.I was driving on the thruway last week and had no choice but to run over an already dead raccoon.Right as I did I was ACUTELY aware of the fact that I was running over something.I drive a large SUV.This event impacted my daughters life and I am at a loss to explain to her why no one is in custody for this horrific crime.I will never forget the phone call at 3:00 A.M. and the sound of terror in her voice describing the headlights on Klye in the road and seeing the oncoming truck and knowing what she was about to see.I sense a deal is being worked out with some pricey attorneys.Shame on you driver - I am sure you are reading these blogs.

1 Was Kyle able to pull through? I spoke with one of the troopers on the scene and he said it was the most horrific damage he'd ever seen done to a person that survived. My thoughts and prayers are with Kyle and his family. The way I understand it, Kyle was drinking (at 20yrs old - was anyone in the bar arrested for serving a minor???) and got into a fight with his girlfriend. He decided to walk home - Akron is about 3 miles from Swormsville. Near the intersection of Stahley and County, he laid down (since he was likely drunk, he may not have realized he was in the street). "Mom"'s daughter (above) saw him lying in the road as she drove by on County Rd, turned around to see if she can help and as she was coming back to Kyle, saw him get run over by a dark, full-size pickup truck that did not stop. Luckily for Kevin, a trooper happened to be coming down County within a minute or two already and got there before a 911 call went out. IN MY OPINION, Kyle was drinking underage and walking down a dark road (not winding as some have described it - that section of County is pretty open and straight with good visibility). In an intoxicated state, he laid down and got run over. The driver of the truck that hit him was likely also drunk and did not stop. Since I have seen no news on this story in over a month, I was hoping to get an update on where this case stands... |

I am Kyle's cousin and I can tell you that he is still alive, though still in a tremendous amount of pain and having a long road to recovery still ahead of him. Here recently, he has faced some battles, and has been in and back out of trauma ICU because of it, but he's a fighter and is refusing to give up. The doctors have said numerous times that his injuries were catastrophic and Kyle truly was blessed to have lived. As to why he was lying in the road, is still unknown. The doctors said when he first came to the hospital that his injuries are consistant with being hit from the front, so there is a possibility that he was hit twice. He could have tripped and fallen, he could have passed out, I'm not really sure. I live in Missouri and spent some time in New York right after the accident, however, Kyle was heavily sedated while I was there, and I have not asked my aunt about the issue.
As far as where the legal case stands, I have absolutly no idea. The last I knew, everything was under investigation and that was all that we were told. |

It is good to know he is still battling through it! My sincere thoughts and prayers are for him and your family!
It is tough to believe that they cannot find the pickup. Clarence/Akron is not that large an area (population-wise) and someone driving at 3am would most likely be local. You'd think they would be able to find the driver. I'm not saying that I think it was a definite hit&run in 2nd degree (no intent, but driver realizing what he'd done and leaving scene intentionally)- County can be dark and it was late. But there was another driver that clearly saw that Kyle was lying on the road and had turned around to assist prior to the accident. I hope your family can get resolution on this one! |

Thank you very much for your thoughts and prayers!
I actually do believe that they have the driver (and from my understanding, there were 2 other passangers) and the vehicle. I was in Akron for a week right after the accident and while I was there, they had the pickup and driver. As far as anythign from there goes, I'm not sure. And there was absolutly no way they didn't know they hit Kyle, unless they were too drunk or stoned to know. I hope we get resolution on this one too, but even more so, that Kyle can just get through this and come home to his little girl! Thank you again for your thoughts and prayers! |
