What's the big deal? The FAA said he was safe. We want cheap tickets, don't we?

This story sounds like something from the 1980's.
A low time pilot who failed numerous flight tests and went from employer to employer , anyone who would hire him because of his failed check rides, inadequate training provided by the company, hours and hours at the airport waiting for the flight to go extending his duty time, etc. The FAA needs to look into this company's training program, or lack thereof, as soon as possible and make some changes.

The ATA pushes for lower standards and rest. This is the result and there will be more. BTW, Glen Tilton heads the ATA. He screwed up United not watch him go to work on the rest of the industry. Hes got to go.

He is also laying off pilots with tens of thousands of hours and putting the people who buy tickets on United in the hands of these inexperienced, under trained pilots at its feeders.

Thats right...you call UNITED to fly somewhere, you could very well be on a flight with a less experienced pilot that you think (and its NOT a United flight). Thank Glen! After all....he'll get a bonus for compromising your safety!

The next of kin should be allowed to sue the pants out of what ever airline the ticket was sold by, that way the airlines might not be so quick to sub contract to low cost or third world intl airlines.

Just goes to show how unaware and naive the flying public is. If they knew who was upfront driving, there would be no commuter airlines. If I lived in an outlying area which required taking a commuter airline to a "hub" airport to get to where I'm going, I would drive my car or take Greyhound. Flying a commuter is akin to being in the back seat of car with a 16 year old driving on their learners permit. I don't want to be in the back while they are cutting their teeth.
This Renslow had no buisness wearing those Captains stripes and this 24 year old broad that was the pretend Co-pilot should have been home in the kitchen making babies and pies, not in the right seat of a complex aircraft. We should have never given them the right to vote.

I mean't to ask this question to all of you sheep that get on Commuter Airline everyday, " With everthing being reported and blogged on this crash, are you still gonna get on board a commuter " I'll bet if you asked the 49 that were on that airplane that question, most of them would still be alive. The poor guy on the ground that was killed, well all I can say is, he shouldn't have been living underneath all this incompetence that we have going on above our heads everyday

Look, they've got to start somewhere. Perhaps the airlines should hire from the military again but this time with living wages. Who an I fooling? The "passenger airlines" will never offer a living wage, only the cargo carriers. We offered our management the chance to let our pilots fly 76 seaters at market rates. They said NO. Mainline pilots are too expensive and the public won't pay for experienced pilots. It is cheaper in the long run to pay for attornys than for experienced pilots.

I will never, ever, EVER travel on a Continental or Colgan flight again. I will make a point of avoiding commuter flights. I've taken internal flights in Russia, for God's sakes, and never felt the kind of fear I feel now after reading the Colgan voice reorder transcript. Flying absolutely sucks-airports are filthy, flights are frequently delayed or cancelled... When the bean counters started running US corporations, the public was jeopardized. I want the pilots and crew on my flight to be top-notch-and I'm willing to pay more for tickets of that's what it takes.

It is quite interesting to see how much you boneheads like to operate like a mob, yes I believe that crew with questionable training and check records need to be re evaluated more than others, However even the major carriers have pilots who fail checks, and it is routine to have the pilot re trained and certified, BTW I wonder if the first officer was your sister would your sexist comment be the same Its people like you who should never be allowed on a flight deck as a crew member.

There are plenty of incompetent pilots in the military!! And plenty of great pilots that were never in the military. Lastly, Capt. Wonderful, mainline pilots aren't the only "experienced" pilots flying around.

Pilots are highly trained people this kind of stuff happens ultra-rarely, most of these pilots do what they do regardless of pay they love the job. There is no such thing as a bad pilot we are all the same just we have different ratings. Going to a top-notch airline will really not help maybe a bit but most of the time crashes are due to failure on ground not the pilot. I earn $120,000 its ok i guess considering my wife is a pediatrician. Cheers!

I heard a rumor that Continental will stop using trubo props and Colgan Air to fly from Newark to Burlington,VT. How can I find out? If not I will have to start going to JFK to take Jet Blue. It is a big pain but...
