Hurry and sign up for one of the best educations in the world. You'll value your 4 years of education, experiences, and friendships that will last a lifetime. The four years is the toughest you'll ever endure, but also the most rewarding.

Bill Russell once said, "I won two national championships in college and 11 world championships in the NBA. But I made many more friendships along the way and THAT'S the most important thing." You'll develop lifelong friendships and comradery unrivaled in the "college world" as well as a fulfilling feeling of service to a grateful nation.

How is VOLUNTEERING for an ALL-VOLUNTEER force that people get paid to participate in along with medical, education, and other benefits constitute "slavery?"

Slavery, by definition, is involuntary and uncompensated.

Once you sign, you're a slave. They don't have to ever let you out, or even pay you.

Yes, once your 4-year CONTRACT you sign is up. When people enlist in the military, they sign an enlistment CONTRACT (emphasis on the word contract) that binds them to serve in the military for 4 years. After that contract expires, a contract entered into VOLUNTARILY by a literate 18-year-old adult, the person is allowed to lave the military. That's much better than back in the 1960s when there was a draft and people were involuntarily forced to serve. Today's military is ALL-VOLUNTEER which means that everyone serving actively pursued the goal of enlistment or commissioning knowing they were signing up for a certain period of time. During their time in, they receive pay, medical care, and other benefits (including educational assistance like the GI Bill or tuition assistance). Once their commitment is up, they're free to either reenlist, which about half VOLUNTARILY do after their first enlistment is up or go their own way, which about half do.

Now the Leavenworth part kicks in when someone goes AWOL while they're still UNDER CONTRΩACT. THey pretty clearly explain the UCMJ to you while in basic training and anyone who thinks they can just desert anytime without consequences is pretty ignorant.

You're not a slave BEFORE you sign. Geez, you hard-headed or what? But AFTER you sign you have virtually no rights.

And you don't sign a four year committment. It is EIGHT years, and you can be kept involuntarily longer than that.

Slavery - sign here.

I've made a very clear, logical point.

Slaves are conquered and captured by those stronger than them. THey are forced to work for NO PAY, usually for life, and have no say whatsoever on when their condition ends short of running away to escape.

Military members go to a recruiter, ask to sign up. They know they'll receive monthly pay, the first couple of promotions and associated pay raises are all but guaranteed. THey receive education benefits, health care, and housing for the duration of their contract that they VOLUNTARILY sign with the knowledge that they're committing 4 years of their life.

IN the particular case of the Air Force Academy, cadets can leave whenever they choose during the first two years. As log as they don't enter class on Day 1 of their junior year, they walk away with 70-80 semester hours of college credit and absolutely NO commitment whatsoever.

Comparing the All-Volunteer military, and in particular the U.S. Air Force Academy to slavery displays absolutely NO logic on your part. You're just an angry, bitter person who has no valid argument to make and can only offer bogus comparisons that have no basis in reality. You are the one who obviously failed Logic 101 if you ever even attempted the course in the first place.

8 years actually. 4 active 4 inactive or 6 active 2 inactive. But total is 8 years (for the AF. I have heard of rumors that the Army is doing 2 years total contracts)

You need to look up the dictionary definitions of "slave" and "slavery" I know the Army specifically has used the "Stop Loss" program to keep soldiers past their 4-year enlistment thus using up some of the 4 years of "inactive reserve" time, but all of those soldiers went in a VOLUNTARILY signed the contract to enlist. They're still getting paid for their service. They'll continue to get VA benefits after they are done with their contractual commitments. Most of the soldiers I've talked to certainly don't feel enslaved.
