What is going on with Huddle House? Frist they are closing. Then they are open but have not food to serve. Things are a mess when we go there. What's up?

Huddle House no longer has any connection with it. She lost the rights to Huddle House. I think its called The Grill? As far as the food - if its bad or something wrong with it you should call the Health Depatment - I think they can do something about it. The best thing is it to close up and someone else buy it.

I miss the Huddle House food; great variety at a reasonable price. Somewhere you could go any time day or night. Hope things work out and it stays open.

If not, a good business man/woman ought to buy it and fix it up. With I-16 and Range Fuels traffic, it should be a good business, right?

I think she has to many problems to manage her business. Maybe she should retire. Although, I do hope what little business she has left can be maintained. Their food use to be very good, just need new management.

I also hope that Mrs. G has will be able to keep the business open!

If you want good food at reasonable prices try Cowboy Carey's. It beats the food at Big Lou's and Huddle House!

Well, I for one, am a huge fan of Big Lou's. He steps out of the box and offers food not generally seen around little ol' Soperton. I have eaten there regularly for several months, and have yet to taste anything bad. His homemade chicken salad is great, as are his salads and steaks.

I also enjoy Cowboy Carey's. Good food at very reasonable prices, and a great country atmosphere. He has great catfish and shrimp, and excellent steaks.

Be glad you have two eating establishments to choose from, and in my opinion, you can get great steaks at both Big Lou's and Cowboy Carey's. Why not patronize them both?

I don't have a problem with Big Lou's but its prices are a little high for a family of 4 or more. His food is o.k. but my kids love fries and he never has them. Also they are not to friendly to their customers. I guess I just miss Southern Sister's and Myra's southern cooking. But, I guess everything has to change sometimes!

I agree, Big Lou's should serve fries. Cowboy Carey serves great fries, and now onion rings!!!

Yes, I think the Health Department should step in and do something because the LAST and I say last cause i will not be out there again. The cook took fries from a prier plate that he was fixing, that the customer left cause it was taking so long and any way, the cook took the fries out of that plate, put them back in the grease to recook them and then put them on MY plate and brought them out there for me to eat. NO,I did not eat them and someone else at the table had a hair in thier food. That is just gross. When something was said about the hair, this is the reply we got back, " well at least it wasn't my hair" that's it, no i'm sorry or anything. I will NOT eat there again. And the cost, just for two was 30ish dollars and didn't get nothing but a hamburger and club.

I think most of this on the board is false info about the Huddle House. Mrs. Gillis owns the HH building and the land surrounding the HH. She decided not to renew with HH franchise because she didnt have to do that. You have no idea what running a store like that is like and she has run it sucessfully for 23 years. At this point in her life, she wanted to serve different items and not have to answer to anyone but herself. That is what most people in business strive to do. The food is great. I do think the help was not up to par for awhile, but now that is much much better. Lots of good church going people continue to eat there and always will. I love it.
Little Girl - you dont know what you are talking about....Everyone has problems. Tell me yours.
Coffee Drinker - The menu is the same as the HH but they have added new items such as fried chicken. The food is awesome. Quit drinking coffee and try a meal sometime.
Common Sense - You lost your common sense when you posted. She never lost the rights to the HH. That is gossip and rumor. She did the smart thing and started her own place with the same food and just changed the name. More money in her pockets rather than in a franchise that doesnt care about its franchisee. You dont walk it so dont talk it. Mrs. Gillis has run a successful restaurant business for 23 years - 1989 as a matter of fact. Over 20 Huddle Houses this year chosen not to renew with HH because of their disrespect for their own franchisees. It is a hard business and I personally take off my hat to this incredible hard working lady. I could go on and on because I for one want fact and not fiction. Try it sometime on this board.
Just me -- you should have called the owner if that terrible situation happened at the HH. Instead of spouting how horrific something was - do something and tell the owner. It would change things. That is how change takes place. Not hard to figure. Mrs. Gillis would have investigated that situation. They have cameras on every cook, and every waitress, not to mention all the tables. Everything is carefully monitored. It would have been seen.. That store is monitored 24/7 by a high tech security system. You have no idea. But tell the owner next time. That needs to be investigated if that did in fact happen.
As for Mrs Gillis retiring - why? Because one person doesnt like the way a hamburger was cooked etc?? That is nuts. Another thing - try running 4 stores in this terrible economy. Try doing anything now a days. This bad economy has touched everyone. Not just the restaurant business. Believe me - she is doing QUITE WELL..... And if you dont like it - Kiss her grits!!! And if she is too much of a lady for that --- you can kiss mine.

Thank the Lord - we finally have something to eat again out here in Orland. Thanks Papa K for bringing some real good food back out this way. I see that you are getting a lot of business. It must be from all the good food being cooked the proper way.

Mr./Ms Concerned for Truth is Ms. Gillis' biggest fan--OBVIOUSLY. But the the facts are there. The old Huddle House as we knew it and enjoyed it is gone. Even the coffee is not fit to drink now, and no one I know would dare attempt to order the food. The place looks nasty and is somewhat disgusting.

This decline in the Huddle House is due to mismanagement, not to mention the family problems the owner has.

We only can hope that someone with a vision that can see past what is there now, could buy the place and bring back the Huddle House, new and improved version. Because, what is up there now should be closed down for many reasons.

That location is prime for a GOOD restaurant!

Daily Horoscope for December 15

Cancer

You've got high hopes about someone or something today, and you're confident that everything will turn out well. If a positive attitude is a guarantee of a positive outcome then you have nothing to worry about. But is it? There's a chance that you're being far too optimistic, and confusing fantasy with fact. If so, you'll be in for a big disappointment.
