Aiken deputy fired for running business on duty

Aiken County Sheriff Michael Hunt has fired a supervisor on his narcotics team for operating a chimney sweep business while on duty and not completing time sheets for his officers.

Aiken has corrupt politics and Police as well? Are you lying to me here, MB Online? One thing I'd like clarification on is about the unmarked cars at the bar. Were they doing a sting? Reconaissance? Were they buying from a dealer? Working CI's? Whats the deal?
Also, is the Sheriff there up for re-election?? Usually something bad happens to deputies when a Sheriff needs to make a name for himself (or herself). This has all the scripting of a political powerplay by a Sheriff who may very well be lagging in the polls. This story needs more intel.

When a Lt. uses force (especially on a Narcotics detail) there is probably an underlying cause of the it- i.e. did the suspect pull a weapon? Did he hurt a junior officer? What happened?
We should not base any judgement on any of these actions reported here without more facts. sadly, it appears that two careers just got snuffed out by a politician.

again another story involving Police that the truth will never be known. Political? bad cops? who knows? the Sheriff knows but will never tell.

Another corrupt Aiken County Sheriff Deputy who was just trying to take bribes on the side. A so-called side business is typically used to justify/legalize bribes taken for various reason (protection from arrest, etc.). We had another ACSO approach us about his cleaning business and his prices were at least three times those of legitimate cleaning businesses. Chimney sweeping, give us a break Sheriff Hunt and/or SLEd need to go ahead and issue the arrest warrant. It's not let everyone doesn't know what's going on here with his side-business deputies!!!

We've oberved a number of Sheriff Mike Hunt's deputies lie while under oath. They tell half-truths just to make their case stick. Why didn't they ever issue an arrest warrant against the criminal narotics deputies who took a patrol car to Georgia and picked up hookers? The sheriff should be arrested by SLED for misconduct in office.

You people from out of town don't have a clue about Sheriff Hunt. No, his popularity is not declining. He's the most respected sheriff we've ever had, and we're lucky to have him. Hunts Loosers and others who complain about him are likely jealous or retaliating because they've been caught by his deputies before. He HANDLED the case of the deputies who picked up hookers -- everyone involved was FIRED. He was NOT to blame for that incident, as they were ALL acting contrary to policy.

With all this police corruption we are starting to wonder if we moved to the right town in the South. We heard that the police in Aiken will arrest you if they don't like you and can find some reason to get your name posted in the paper. What kind of town are you people running down here? We have never seen so many police officer get fired for misconduct and/or corruption.

It seems to me to be o.k. to go forward as long as it is in a gear other than reverse. Perhaps I should conduct a poll on this. But I only trust my opinion so that would not work. Than again, who knows.

Yes buried your head in the sand. that will stop all the corruption in aiken, sc that is why there is so much corruption in your town.to bad that they dont get a better sheriff , maybe he still lives in the civic war days , make some one else look bad , and that take the heat off of him.

Sounds like a clear case of fraud and stealing from Aiken County taxpayers. Was he charged with a crime?

I just love how people from out of town, and even out of state pick up on a news article and think they know about Aiken. The fact is there will be good and bad PEOPLE whatever profession you look at. The public must realize that cops are people and sometimes flawed as well as the rest of the population, but I think Sheriff Hunt has done his very best to deal with his staff appropriately. His "popularity" is certainly not declining as this County loves him and his work ethic. I'm sure there are two sides to this as well as every story but be careful slandering a man and a town you are not familiar with.

This sheriff has absolutely no loyality to his emoloyees or friends. He will step on anyone just to get out of trouble or to get ahead. Just ask former SC Ag Commissioner Charles Sharpe.
