aloha so happy to hear that fr d will be finally canonized and raised to a holy level in the church---we already know that he has been with the Blessed Lord---what a wonderful celebration of the saint of Molakai which will take place in Rome!!!!

Miracles are far more common than people recognize. Jesus does miracles every day. It's not wise to use God's mercy to elevate a particular religious person or group, as that takes the glory away from God, where it belongs. The Lord's Prayer says, "Thine is the kingdom, the power and the GLORY" Giving glory to humans is misplaced.

There you have it, ladies and gentlemen. Iron-clad proof of the power of prayer. (pay no attention to the untold millions of devout believers it did not help)

My sister buried a statue of Father Damien upside down in a flower pot, and she now gets excellent gas mileage in her Dodge Dart.

We have contacted the Vatican.

Look at all those lepers on Molokai that Father Damien cured. Some of them are still alive to this day.

I worked for 17 years at Aloha Airlines. My wife prayed regularly to Father Damien, but all I got was this crummy t-shirt.

We bought a big loaf of Portuguese Sweet Bread in October 2002, and when we tore it apart there was the image of Father Damien. We took photos, but they came out blurred.

The Lord works in mysterious ways.

Damien would be embarrassed by all the attention being focused on him. He would probably want such focus given to the Christ he worshipped and adored and dedicated his life to imitating. And his cause for sainthood...he would probably want us to remember the saints on Molokai who eked out life in the leper colony!

I personally know someone who put a kukui lei on the Damien statue at the state capital building, and then they won big on the Wheel of Fortune slots in Vegas.(Kukui is the official flower of Molokai). Makes you think.

Nothing like a good laugh to start off the day! This should be submitted to the "best of" comments!

Prayers do help. You have to believe in the Supreme Being and Aloha to Mrs Toguchi.

i believe. and i am not catholic. the canonization of father DAmien will bring visitors to this island and beef up the economy and jobs here. problem is that there are hardly any places to stay. the planning department better wake up because they haven't permitted any b&bs yet. but they are talking about it. they will probably talk about it until the cows come home. by that time i am in the grave.

Oh God!! Here I was in a crummy mood because it's still barely above freezing over here and I'm homesick for the islands -- and now my stomach hurts from laughing so hard. Good ones! Father Damien is probably falling down laughing in his eternal rest as well. We all needed this.

All you skeptics missed the message. Fact: This wonderful lady is now cancer-free. Fact: She remained positive through prayer and faith. Fact: She didn't do it through sarcasm and rudeness. I don't care who you pray to, or if you pray at all. I'd love to hear more amazing stories of people who beat aggressive illnesses and how they did it.

The most revealing part about the whole story is that the lady taught in our public schools for 44 years
