He exagerates the "maintenance" issues. It's been well maintained. Any building would have those, and they are taken care of. He should look around, lots of older buildings. Besides, those are responsibility of the association, not just the hotel.

Thomas Schmidt is doing the best he can. He is providing a vision to restore the Ilikai to its former beauty. The location is spectacular and the design unique. I always enjoyed my morning walk along Waikiki Beach, along the Hilton beachfront to the Ala Wai Yacht Club. The ocean view from the lobby was inspiring, the scene changing every single moment. Schmidt does not have the money to pull this off. He has a great dream but that's all it is. Does he know how much labor and benefits alone will cost him to operate the hotel with Union employees? He has no idea what he's getting into. If his only experience is running a small time apt building in Aiea, then he's in for a big surprise. A major hotel brand w/deep pockets needs to take this project on and bring it back to icon it once was.

Schmidt sounds like the kinda guy that is looking for a sound business deal, but also holds the Ilikai dear to his heart like a lot of other residents and condo owners do.

Anderson was all about the bucks, but Schmidt seems to have a feeling of ohana about him.
