Well it seems to me as though you have a problem. First of all I will say yes, this is Hawaii and we are a part of the USA. However, not by choice of natives. So, before you go and post messages make sure you've got the facts. Also, for someone who doesn't like living here you should've left a long time ago. One last thing, Americans introduced grammar to my native hawaiians, who by the way were the most literate people in the world back in the mid 1800's, so maybe you should learn to spell being that you're an American and all.

It depends on the person/people you associate with,(in my experience) I've seen it both ways.

I'm not from Hawaii(I guess most will figure that out) but have been treated decently by the local people; however I can tell when I'm not "wanted" somewhere. Call it intuition if you will. I don't care where you are from, everyone should be treated as an individual and not a race. I'm tired of "people" getting mistreated for their ancestors actions. That's ridicuolus. Let's build a bridge and "move on". Why does it seem difficult to "TREAT OTHERS AS WE WANT TO BE TREATED"? Isn't that the way it's suppose to be? The sooner we can do this, the better life will be- for everyone!!!

Wow, you're young, hang in there and try to enjoy being 14. High School is so tough, kids can be mean for any reason....I believe it's can be the toughest time of your life in terms of peers.

This is what I always tell my kids (I have a 13 and a 15 year old). I was teased in Intermediate and High School because I have an "ugly" beauty mark on my face as well as very full, "ugly" lips. When I turned 18, Cindy Crawford was the top supermodel (my beauty mark is identical to hers) as well as thick lips came into vogue (ie: Angelina Jolie, Liv Tyler). Now, people always say I'm lucky to have these features, they make me attractive, although all my life I was called "bird sh*t face" and "joojoo lips", now it's a standard of beauty to some extent, people are even having cosmetic surgery to have a beauty mark or thick lips! Also, asians were considered unattractive in my day- I remember a girl telling me to wear makeup a certain way otherwise I look too Chinese- and so many of us asian girls hated our asian features, but now it's cool to be asain. GO FIGURE!

What I'm trying to say as a "mom" is that right now it seems like you're being persecuted, but once you're an adult and the paths you choose, you will find different and more positive perspectives. Something that's not cool now may be the very most desired standard later. And also in terms of peers, other things come into play as you get older, such as your occupation, your education, etc...you will meet people with similar interests and knowledge and it won't be so superficial.

Being an adolescent in this day and age has to be even more tough than ever. Hang in there!

I HAVE LIVED IN THE ISLANDS FOR 37 YEARS NOT ONCE HAVE I EVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE LOCAL PEOPLE. I MOVED TO WAIANAE BACK IN THE EARLY 70'S EVEN MY COP FRIENDS THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY. HOWEVER JUST LIKE THE MAINLAND WHEN YOU MOVE TO A NEW NEIGHBORHOOD, YOU HAVE TO BREAK THE ICE. I FOUND SOME OF THE NICEST MOST SINCERE PEOPLE OUT THERE THEY SHOWED ME WHAT ALOHA IS ALL ABOUT.
TILL THIS DAY I STILL HAVE A VERY STRONG BOSTON ACCENT. PEOPLE ASK WHY AFTER SO MANY YEARS? I SIMPLY REMIND THEM THAT YEARS AGO IT WAS THE MISSIONARIES FROM BACK THERE WHO CAME TO HAWAII UNINVITED AND TAUGHT THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE TO THE HAWAIIANS. IT SICKENS ME TO SEE THESE HAOLES GET OF THE PLANE AND A WEEK LATER THEY ARE TRYING TO TALK ALL PIGEON LA DAT AND DA KINE, HEY WEA YU WEN GO SCHOOL BRA?
3 THINGS TO REMEMBER 1. RESPECT THE LOCAL PEOPLE 2. RESPECT THE AINA, 3. REMEMBER YOU ARE JUST A GUEST HERE.

Howz this..........No one owns this freakin rock we are on. We are all here by grace, and we can all be washed away by a tsunami like freakin piss ants. No matter what race we are, if we identify with it, then we are dumb asses and deserves whatever comes along with such an identification. Once we transcend this dumb shit meat suit we all think we are we become conscious and realize that if we don't identify, don't hold grudges, don't point fingers, we might transcend the slavish pig infested ignorance we live in, and we might get better jobs, better character, better health, and in the end COMMAND respect through LOVE and personal power, rather than DEMAND respect like a dumb ass throught FORCE, VIOLENCE, and all that BLOODLINE shit!!!!!!! Now whether I am a big dumb fat incested retarded violent braddah or a skinny rude prick Haoule bastard thats trying to take over the world, privatize it, and sell it back to my own flesh and blood doesnt matter. Cause once you transcend all that you can speak like a crazy ass like me:) Hhahahahahahhahahaha

The real problem is education. The majority of Hawaiians are undereducated because the public school system is atrocious (look at the grammatical errors in many of these posts). Without a proper education, an individual does not have much chance in today's world. Thus, anger over ones lot in life is directed at someone else. Whites are the most easily discernible, largely because present day 'Hawaiians" are multiethnic. Whites are also targeted because they tend to be wealthy and they are perceived as colonialists. This shows ignorance of both Hawaiian and American history.
