A "Big Mahalo" and "Aloha" goes out to Mufi mouthpiece and prentend-a-enviro-tree-hugger, Markus Owens, for trying to cover-up Mufi kukae dump into the Ala Wai canal so that it could be enjoyed by our tourists along the shoreline of Waikiki.

Eh, DLNR---WAKE UP!!!

Fine Mufi, not the US Navy, for crying out loud.

To Linda L. Smith, Gov. Lingle's senior policy adviser: Hawai'i has seen more that it's share of completely horrible Governors. Linda Lingle has been just another horrible Governor and a failure at just about everything she has done (or NOT done) for the people of Hawai'i. Lingle doesn't care about anyone but herself and her future in Washington, which became quite bleak when her buddy McSame lost command of the GOP sinking, stinking ship.

"Barack Obama's best political move was to move away from Hawaii."

Fletcher Young's statement seems odd considering that Obama left Hawai'i to eventually make this great country go further down the toilet.

A few examples:

1. Obama voted to amend the FISA to allow domestic spying and allowed telecommunications companies to spy on us:

http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_ca...

2. The AIG bailout plus bonuses was not a surprise:

From page H1412 of the Final Stimulus Bill,“SEC. 111. EXECUTIVE COMPENSATION AND CORPORATE GOVERNANCE:

“(iii) The prohibition required under clause (i) shall not be construed to prohibit any bonus payment required to be paid pursuant to a writte employment contract executed on or before February 11, 2009, as such valid employment contracts are determined by the Secretary or the designee of the Secretary.”

This amendment provides an exception for contractually obligated bonuses agreed on before February 11, 2009 which exempts the AIG bonuses Obama is condemning every single chance he gets. The amendment is in the final version and is law. Obama and his administration helped it to pass.

Biden himself took the fall THEN backpedalled and said that it was due to the Obama administration:

http://www.newsweek.com/id/190243

3. He PROMISED the American people that they would have a say for non-emergency bills for a period of five days:

http://washingtontimes.com/news/2009/mar/30/o...

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/12/us/politics...

So no just NO. Obama is one of the worst presidents and he has been in office for less than four months. Now our children and grandchildren will be footing the bill on these bailouts. That is NOT something to be proud of.

Lana's letter is a joke. Obama has been in office for less than 3 months (Jan 20 - Feb 20 - Mar 20- April 7), and she is calling him one of the worst presidents ever. The numbered points and the links provide scant cover. Her remarks are - too put it mildly - borderline hysterical.

Let's not let these facts get in the way of a juvenile opinion.

The unemployment rate is over 50 percent higher than when he took office in 2001.

In 2008 the US shed 2.8 million jobs.
Over the last eight years fewer than a quarter of the 22 million jobs created by his predecessor's administration were realized during the Bush administration.

During Bush's term real wages decreased, as did the stock market. Neither of this had occurred during the 3 administration preceding '43.

When it comes to personal responsibility, the recurring theme of the Bush administration appears to be, "Its not my fault. He told me to do it".

Hysterical can mean "causing unrestrained laughter; very funny."

However our children, grandchildren, AND great grandchildren footing the bill on these corporate bailouts partly courtesy of President Obama are NOT A LAUGHING MATTER.

This is VERY serious and will affect their DAILY LIFE.

Then again no wonder you respond with a personal attack instead of with SUBSTANCE. However the future generations WILL PAY.

THAT IS NOT FUNNY.

FWIW I am not referring to former President Bush. Instead I am referring to President Obama who is our present president.

He is set to scrap the FCS (Future Combat System) and force our soldiers to defend us with weaponry like F15s which are nearly 30 YEARS OLD. Meanwhile China is a powerhouse of weaponry.

Yes... former President Bush was not perfect. I never stated that he was. However I am not discussing former President Bush. I am discussing our PRESENT president, Obama. I can understand that some people voted for Obama and/or want to defend him but Obama's track record is putting our children, grandchildren, AND great grandchildren at risk.

President Obama cannot BLAME Bush now like how he did before.

Aloha:

It is "funny" that the Republicans really seem to believe that President Obama should have been able to correct in eight weeks what George W. Bush and his gang did to us, our country and the world in eight years. They must have thought Obama was a superhuman, and now they're showing some disapppointment.

Practically speaking, it will take more than eight years of Obama Presidency, maybe even 16 or more years of two or more Presidents to undo what has been done to us.

But President Obama is on the right track, unafraid to tackle the big problems. And unlike some former Presidents, he CAN do more than one thing at a time.

If being protected by old technology bothers you, only recently are they replacing C-130's (from the 1950's) with C-17's. The B-52 is nearly twice the age of pilots flying them but is still projected to be in service for many years to come.

At the same time, stand off weapons like UCAV's, which are cheaper to operate and don't put pilot's lives in danger are being upgraded. And if you want a pilot in the seat, the F-35 is still pushing forward.

Gates is a hold over from the Bush era and even he sees the need to scale back and put quality dollars on quality products. No more unlimited socialistic spending for the military, which is as it should be.

I believe you have no ground to stand on with your opinion of Obama. That is why you got some facts from the cabal of men and women that was our last administration.

Your talking points are a reflection of a failed party. The GOP's identity over time has been one to stress fear. Whether it's communism, Clinton, or WAR on TERROR, AMERICANS sent a resounding message in November that the GOP is a failure.

That's right Keith, after less than two months in office, Obama managed to make the Dow Jones plummet thousands of points to 1997 levels and ruin the retirement portfolios of thousands of mainstream American citizens. Job well done indeed.(golf clap)

Lana is the joke. She contradicts herself at every corner. Her letter is merely the the cut-n-paste product of a joke.

It's best to view her posts as a form of entertainment, rather than actually take her seriously.

The appearance of Markus Owen' letter in todays Letters to the Editor column prompts the question of how many Public Communications Officers and spokespersons are on the city payroll. It seems as if every department has at least one. And just yesterday it was reported that the transit department will have two. What happened to the practice of department heads speaking for their departments. Are our coffers so full that we can afford to hire all these "public communications officers".
I wish Markus would be forthright and admit that the Mayor directed this response instead of making it appear that he did it on his own. Everyone knows you don't make a move without Mufi's okeydokey.

As usual some people post HIDING behind a screen name because they are unable to stand behind their beliefs.

Before coming online AT LEAST have the gut.s to be a man and SIGN YOUR NAME. Weak men are LAME.

Not only are you weak and feel compelled to hide but I have ALREADY graduated from college.

Meanwhile you come online to post lame personal attacks WHILE HIDING.

Now THAT is VERY amusing LOL

Another weak MAN who hides.

Listen.. I have NO problem with people spending their time ONLINE but understand that SOME of us work for a living and do not spend countless days and hours ONLINE hiding behind a screen name and fail to STAND BEHIND their belief(s.)

A WEAK man who HIDES. That is an epitome of lame so BEFORE criticizing my work and my college education (i.e. University of Washington) you may want to first suck it up and BE A MAN instead of HIDING behind a screen man.

I am PROUD to be 41 years old.

Meanwhile a man who HIDES BEHIND A SCREEN NAME which shows that he is WEAK... now THAT is VERY amusing LOL

What Markus Owens also forgot was the increase in sewer fees. Well if they are "upgrading" the system as they're claiming, I haven't seen it. And apparently neither has the EPA.

Actually the article was correct. Marcus gets up set because the article is correct. Sewage dumped in Ala Wai and it ruined water activities in Waikiki and Ala Moana for a couple of weeks. If the truth hurts so be it. The City took the easy way out in dumping into the Ala Wai for such a long time. They could have dumped initially and in very short order ran temporary hoses to the man holes down stream of the isolation valve. Just took a little thinking.
