Full story: Honolulu Star-Bulletin

It's like "Craigslist" except the goal is to bring people together to support public schools in Hawaii.

thanks for your condescension, but as a full-time undergraduate student who is looking to give back to my community, I think this is a perfect opportunity for me. please go discourage young people from providing service some place else. volunteers have and always will be an integral component to schools throughout the country. it is a positive way of connecting people from the community with our students.
obviously you have some serious issues with the DOE and I am sure they are more than substantiated, but i don't need you patronizing me. i am just looking to provide a service to my community when i have time. rant to someone else, please.
it's people like you that our current system is relying on to continue their corrupt & inefficient of doing things. DOE asking for volunteers or donations is no different than banks who ask for bailout money while the executives go on luxury vacations. WAKE UP!

<quoted text> You must be really naive and haven't noticed the corrupt DOE who has been making shady deals with special interest for over 40 years and just recently agreed to another shady contract. And , you as a patriotic citizen will offer your services to a mobster controlled DOE once a week for the sake of our children.
you are a very melodramatic guy herb. maybe you should spend less time in front of your computer ranting and raving and actually do something. yes, i would do it for the "sake of the children." even if the DOE has problems, why would i abandon the children that actually need the support? obviously you haven't spend time working with children on this island and haven't recognized the extreme need. what do you propose instead? oh yeah, a militaristic school to send the "thugs" to or let the corrupt DOE wither and fail. why not try something constructive and positive? you watch too many movies and read too many blogs. come back to reality and actually do something herb.

i think the people of hawaii could benefit from having you spearhead a positive initiative. you seem like a knowledgable guy. too bad your rhetoric is so recusant and theatrical.

I was a teacher in the public school system for 30 years and I enjoyed this career working with young students. However, not all students are angels and well behaved as you see them from the outside and you will soon see their real behavior is not one hundred per cent angelic. There are some really bad apples and I am now strongly leaning towards a military type school to house some of the thugs that are ruining the school environment. Safety is also a concern for students who want to learn if the thugs are allowed to roam on school campuses and disrupt clsses. Yes, I do rant and rave on this forum and I don't think you will believe this but I do really care about education. I care with all my heart to correct the public school system and I am focusing on the big picture and not on band aid measures like volunteers and donations. And, finally, this is America, so you have all the right in the world to volunteer your services. My advice to you is think and make the right choices.
