His buddy, who works for the city and declined to give his name, ventured, "I know plenty places they can cut costs.
Maybe this was this city worker's day off-but his idea about finding ways to cut would help.

We are NOT the ones with 'deep pockets'. WE ARE THE MAKAAINANA SANS POLITICAL CLOUT. This is one of the many causes for the 'brain drain' of our keiki kakou. Would you want to be continuingly 'nickle and dimed' to 'share' the cost of maintaining the 'Aloha Spirit'?

The new proposal for the bus pass is too high! We are the ones saving money and he jacks us up!$10.00 increase! You gotta be joking! Me not being on the road is helping the traffic situation as well as all the other riders. You ride the bus Mufi every day and get a taste. Yeah, you made news back in the day with the express bus and what not on the Leeward side, how about now? Yep, i'm venting!!!

you can be anonymous on here buddy...i agree. Please tell us where the cuts are! Be on our side since we don't have the mayors. We could cut out the coconut trees down on the Ala Wai and give back all those parking spaces and only tow in the morning since everybody goes to work anyway, leave the parking alone in the afternoon and evening when people come home (residents of waikiki), not the other way around when they tow in the afternoon.

$10 more a month would kill you? Now that's a little excessive don't you think. LA charges $62 and Seattle is $63. People in Hawaii have gotten too used to paying so little.$50 for unlimited rides on the bus is still a deal.

Have you made a rational comparison of the quality of services, comfort, distances travelled, and other amenities that justifies the different rates? I believe that the Seattle system is superior to the others and is well worth the cost.

The silver lining to this cloud may mean that more people will take the bus to Waikiki instead of their car. I mean, like, you could take the bus with your fishing poles and a cooler.$ave money while taking care of the environment!

Adding taxes and fees at this time would further crush an already weak economy. The Mayor does not seem to have a good grip on what macroeconomic policy does to the economic climate. Policy like this will further contract an already contracted economy. Back to Econ 101 for the Mayor...

All us zoo visitors have been fortunate with the ridiculously low parking rates and even the zoo entry fee. It definitely makes sense to raise these rates in this bad economy.
Raise the rates

I am a Zoo member and take my kid at least once or twice a month. I would welcome an increase in the parking rates because I suspect it will free up parking from the hotel and restaurant workers who pay for 4 hours, take a lunch break, and pay for another 4 hours. They are parking an entire day for just $2! I would also gladly pay more for the zoo or aquarium (as long as the additional funds benefits them).
