There are 54 comments on the Honolulu Star-Bulletin story from Jul 31, 2009, titled Letters to the Editor - Hawaii Editorials. In it, Honolulu Star-Bulletin reports that:

What is Obama hiding from us? So the Star-Bulletin now calls those who would like to see the original Obama birth certificate idiots? Why does the Star-Bulletin simply dismiss this fundamental constitutional question and instead call its neighbors, subscribers and fellow citizens such mean-spirited names? Where is the aloha? Why not instead opine ...

<quoted text>"Hawaiian Republican" You are right. I was never an Obama supporter. I watched Sen Mc Cain over the years and could not imagine voting for him. His temper plus finishing second from his class at Annapolis Naval Academy. Obama came across as some common sense coming to our government which we needed. NOW..I just don't know what tothink or do...other that keep calling my US Rep and Senators trying to keep them remembering there is another election next year. We have scraped the bottom of the barrel AGAIN. Aloha from Northeast PA.
Good for you for bugging your Representative and Senators, and I mean that no matter which political side of the isle you stand.

More Americans need to voice their concerns more directly to the government, and that's probably one of the best ways to get started. I didn't vote for any of my Hawaii Representatives/Senators, but when I think they are doing something good, I call their offices and tell them so. But, when they are doing something I disagree with, I call and tell them so also. Admitedly, as a conservative Republican, I call more often with complaints than praises.

What's funny is I have Republican friends who get irritated with him because they think he's too soft on Obama and the Democrats. Frequently, in the nightly emails he receives, he gets berated from both far-right Conservatives and far-left Liberals on the same report/story -- one saying he wasn't hard enough, the other saying he was too hard.
I guess that's confirmation that he's more center than most.
Then he is a conservative in the eyes of those on the far right. And if that's the perception the left, middle and right have of him, then it must be true.

Well said, Mr. Republican.
I'd like to add that the Naval Academy focuses on science and engineering, and is stellar in that category. Yale, Princeton, Harvard? I think these schools focus primarily on law and political science.
BTW, I think Abraham Lincoln also had no or very little formal education. And isn't he considered the greatest US President?
You should talk to Thom1s now that he's returned. He feels the USNA is not an elitist school as to opposed to say, Columbia.

I'm not sure what you're getting at, but I wasn't trying to brand any as "elitist". I wanted to differentiate them.

I have a good friend, whose daughter graduated from Harvard a few years ago, and is an investment banker with JP Morgan.

I also have a former colleaugue, whose son graduated from the Naval Academy at about the same, but I'm not sure where in the Navy or Marines is he assigned.

A current staff member had his oldest son get accepted at the Naval Academy in 2007, but had to drop out due to the hard physical conditioning. He had a case of asthma and couldn't keep up.

Both are great schools, but their emphasis and approach (cirricula and discipline) are vastly different.

Aloha:
So now there is even a Hawai`i resident letter writer who does not believe President Obama, Kapi`olani Medical Center, The State of Hawai`i Department of Health, the Star-Bulletin and the Advertiser.
A sucker is born every minute, and there are hundreds of them now who actually believe that our President was born in Kenya, walked on water to Hawai`i where he miraculously appeared in his mother's arms. Then she paid everyone to lie because she "knew" he was going to become the 44th President of the United States. Great story, thanks to Rush Limbaugh, Bill O`Reilly, Sean Hannity, Lou Dobbs, and a handful of radical racist rightwing Republicans who can't stand the thought of a President from Hawai`i, who is also part-Black.
It will never end, so let's ignore them and get on with fixing health care, the economy, our position in the world, etc., under the leadership of Honolulu-born Barack Hussein Obama, POTUS.
FYI, the Barack Obama born in Kenya (yes, records prove it) WAS HIS FATHER.

Let's get on with trying to get both him and Hanneman out of office. One is as obnoxious and arrogant as the other and both will cause economic disasters.

No, that's not it. I am well aware that, in all things, there is always the possibility that I have been fooled. Whether it's God, politicians, the food I buy at the store, a used car, or trolls posting here pretending to be on the other side. But that does not make me a paranoid conspiracy theorist about everything. I weigh the evidence provided. I expect what is provided to be what is required by law. I demand nothing more, nothing less. I know I have to provide proof of my existence regularly, and I'm used to that, but should anyone demand more than is required, I refuse. As a matter of principle. Obama is doing that and I applaud him. I see what he is doing as standing up for what little right to privacy we citizens of the USA still enjoy. That, plus the fact, it just makes the Republicans and others who believe this is a conspiracy look silly. Kind of an extra benefit there. Oops. I called them "silly." I hope that wasn't too uncivil for you.
You were more than civil. Silly isn't derogatory.
I merely asked a question and sought comments from others. It seems to have worked in that I see several posts here that address, but never answer the question, Except for you.
You had me thinking you were a realist for the first part of your comments until the part about him "standing up...little right to privacy". All of his appointed czars, not elected nor confirmed, have me very worried. I'm afraid our right to privacy has been gone for sometime now, some date it to 9/11. And, I fear it's going to get worse. Thanks for your comments and we'll all just have to watch and see how this Administration turns out.

Unfortunately for the US, the stimulus money is all borrowed. I heard a rumor that 2/3 of the money is from China, and that they have an option to call their margin in 3 years. This would coincide with the next presidential election. The Chinese added this clause to make sure, that if Obama doesn't look like the front runner, they can get their money back. What money?
