I want to discuss the New Year's celebration, with the worst illegal fireworks I have ever experienced in my entire life here on Oahu. Full Story

Fireworks are a wonderful thing in the right time and place. It brings back wonderful childhood memories.
But not starting in Oct. and ending Jan 3 in the New Year.
I agree, these were some of the loudest I have ever heard.
In Ewa Beach, the people were held hostage for weeks. They were one decibel short of military ordnance put into a dumpster and lasting until 4 in the morning.
Don't give me the the ole, this is our culture stuff. Is it your culture to be so rude and uncaring to your fellow man?
Is it your culture to drive animals into a frenzy and children into seizures?
Please, let us work together on this.
Stop the long weeks and hours of fireworks and please use only legal ones that do not rattle the pictures on the walls.
In the right time and place, they are wonderful.

Aloha:

The solution to the exploding of bombs in our town is to do what seemingly more intelligent folks have done elsewhere.

In Beijing, in the country where most of the explosives we import are manufactured, it is against the law to explode them. And those who are caught spend years in work camps paying their debt to society.

Now, I'm not suggesting that we have such strict punishment. Maybe just a $10,000 fine, suspension of voting rights and driving privileges for 10 years, 10,000 hours of community service wearing a sign that read "I'm a stupid criminal," or something like that.

But I must ask the obvious question: Are the Chinese lawmakers that much smarter than ours?

A total ban of bombs and other pyrotechnics could exclude the aerial dislays put on for the public enjoyment one or two nights a year.

Then we should confiscate the jumbo jets and container ships that aid and abet the criminals by bringing the illegal explosives to Hawai`i, and that carry them inter-island.

The police cannot enforce the present laws regarding explosives, because they must see the crime being committed. I would guess there were millions of violations of the law on O`ahu alone in the past three months, committed by hundreds of thousands of criminals. And 93 of them were cited.

It is not the fault of the police, but rather of the lawmakers and ultimately, the voters, who let them stay in office.

It is also the fault of the airlines and ship companies who allow the criminals to import the bomb-making materials, and to ship them inter-island. They are fostering terrorism and there are federal laws that can be brought to bear, if need be. The planes and ships should be confiscated and put to public use. That in itself could save us millions of dollars a year in shipping costs, bringing in foodstuffs and other materials that we must import.

Think about it ... think outside the box. We don't have to accept the status quo. We can breathe free.

And let's do it before an airplane carrying "fireworks" blows up in our skies. For the one guy they caught carrying fireworks onto a plane, there were dozens or hundreds who escaped detection.

The law should be that it is illegal to import, sell, buy, give away, or explode fireworks, firecrackers, homemade bombs and other terrorist devices. Nail the shippers, sellers, buyers who then build bombs and who give the to children and less intelligent people of all ages.

Sorry Mark... the days of polluting our islands in the sake of celebration are over.

To those that set off the aerials and percussion bombs?

YOU KILLED MY CAT OF 13 YEARS AND I WILL _NEVER_ FORGIVE YOU.

If the gov. won't do it WE WILL.

You have not heard the last of this.

With regards to igniting fireworks (to paraphrase the great William Shakespeare) "It is an action BY AN IDIOT, FULL OF SOUND AND FURY, SIGNIFYING NOTHING!"
How about some legislation SIGNIFYING SOMETHING outlawing these costly, dangerous, mindless fireworks igniting actions?

Sorry, Mark, but pets don't just get "nervous". They get TERRIFIED and run away, causing grief and worry to the owner. Returning vets who suffer from PTSD after being in those war zones don't get "nervous". They get TERRIFIED and don't deserve to have to deal with those ILLEGAL bombs after what they have been through risking their lives for us!. People with breathing difficulties don't just have an "uncomfortable" evening. For many, they can set off severe attacks which take them right to the emergency room.
For children who end up being burned, they don't just get a little scratch, they, too, go to the E.R.
For those who just LOOOOOOOOOVE to use thet boring old line that it's traditional and is chasing away evil spirits, that is the biggest load of you know what. BOMBS and highly explosive devices being set off in the street or thrown from a car or building, setting off fires to others' property, is NOT traditonal or scaring away evil spirits. It is only TERRIFYING so many who have to endure other idiots' selfish and totally inconsiderate and ILLEGAL behavior.

When YOUR child gets burned or YOUR house turns to ashes, when YOUR loved pet flees in terror, maybe running into the street and being killed by a car, and you can't find it, will you, then, think it's so fun??? Will you, then become one of the "whiners" who can;t just deal with it for the months it goes on?

Why don't you cry babies get a life or get on a plane and leave. To equate fireworks users with idiot who fly planes into buildings or chop of the heads of innocent people is just asinine. Worried about Hawaii's environment? Stop overpopulating it. Over a million people on Oahu. Now that's an environmental nightmare. Fireworks have always been around as long as I've live here (born & raised.) We like it. If you don't, too bad.

Ok, and when YOU burn, we won't cry!!

I imagine those 2 kids with 2nd and 3rd degree burns sent to the ER didn;t think so, either, or did their idiot parents!
I love how people are so tough til something actually happens to them! Wil YOU be so tough when fireworks burn your house, injure your family, kill your pet?
Not thinking so!

To the Klan and others. Remember that every person who set off firecrackers, aerial fireworks, homemade bombs, etc. before 9 p.m. on New Year's Even and after 1 a.m. on New Year's Day, was committing a criminal act. And those who were using illegally imported, illegally acquired or homemade bombs were in violation of Homeland Security laws designed to keep terrorists from blowing us up. Those who set off bombs near homes, hospitals, humans, etc. are all wannabe terrorists. There were millions of violations of the unenforceable existing laws, crimes committed by hundreds of thousands of terrorists in training.

I guess it's pointless trying to have an intelligent dialog with this idiot because he doesn't seem to get it that laws are already in place and that's just the way it is, babe!

Go ahead and burn from fireworks. We won't waste our energy on saving you.
I'm getting a pretty good picture of the mentality of this "Klan watch" person. Great, intelligent name, too, eh! KLAN WATCH

PS, sweetie, many of us on this post are also born and raised here-you are not the only one! We've also seen enough injuriy and destruction happen over the years to think this is just cool anymore.
Grow up!

And, since the law says it's ILLEGAL, whether you like it or not, YOU are the one who doesn't like it so YOU are the one who should leave and find someplace where you CAN be obnoxious and inconsiderate and dangerous!!!

BYE BYE!!!

Not sure if you know this, but a lot of cops are doing a side business selling aerials. No, I didn't buy any, but I know people who did. The people to go after are not the ones who are setting off illegal fireworks, but the people who are selling them.
