Leon Metz: Spaniards were early visitors to El Paso

Full story: El Paso Times

Across the centuries and decades, local and regional historians have debated the big question: Who were the first El Pasoans? Obviously, they were the Indians, although these were not necessarily the ancestors of present-day Indians.

Your propaganda is getting old. Learn your southwest history before you spill your garbage. You do more harm to the Southwest than anything.

You like history? How's your math?
1. List your credentials
2. List your "propaganda"
3. List your references
4. 1+2+3= credibility

Wait! I thought the Ysleta and other Pueblo indians as-well-as the Mescalero were here before the Spaniards? What of the Tularosa Basin Massacre of 1850's? The captured children of Tularosa were said to have been of Spanish ancestory? Are the Tarumara related to the Ysleta indians?

Leon's always so good to read.

I don' get the strange singling out of Onate. I'm a history major, and if Onate's to be singled out, why not topple statues of Washington, Jackson, Kit,(Carson), Dan'l Boone, Cortez, Colón,(the finder, not the theatre), Gen'l Miles, Custer, and all the udder Europeans and Euro-Americans who have stuff named after them, statues all over, etc.?

Could it be selective racism? Because the Inquisitional behavior of the Spanee was definitely mirrored, if not out-performed, by the Britee, the Frenchee, etc.

Just a thought-

Perhaps you would do well to change your major to English.

Just a thought.

As expected, Leon says it right, states the grey areas, and educates.

We all have our filters, and some are obviously more clogged than others as evinced by some of these replies.

One thread that comes to light is that of "who owns or has a claim of ownership of what lands?" It is well defined by law, buy who defines the law? It is less well defined (or even undefined) by Nature's Law, ethics, The Golden Rule, and personal opinions. Not worth the argument as it is what it is.

Nice Headline, Leon. You are such a genius for educating everyone here about the Spanish. This is good information for second graders.

Daily Horoscope for December 15

Cancer

You've got high hopes about someone or something today, and you're confident that everything will turn out well. If a positive attitude is a guarantee of a positive outcome then you have nothing to worry about. But is it? There's a chance that you're being far too optimistic, and confusing fantasy with fact. If so, you'll be in for a big disappointment.
