Hi:
I grew up enjoying buckshop beefburgers in south St Joe. I know they've closed, but I wonder if anyone knows where I could get their recipe. I live in Pa now and still get hungry for one,LOL. |

I believe the beef birgers were popular at the Bucket shop.. |

Lisa, you can still get brick chili! see the link below: http://www.texaschili.com/famous-real-texas-b... I also grew up in South St Joe and have great memories of the Bucket Shop. I even went to grade school with the son of the owner....Corny Chiralla. |

Buy a Big Mac. Wear it in your armpit for three days. Same thing.

Hi, Lisa...I know you wrote this some time back and I too have attempted to find the brick chili and found out they no longer make it. I have the original bucketshop recipe that my deceased Mom gave to me years ago since I lived too far away to get the beefburgers. I have had to improvise a bit since I can't use the brick chili, so this is what I do... 1 1/2 lbs. ground beef onions (I like a lot but you can add according to your taste. (cook drain) 2 tblsps. dry mustard 2 tblsps. of vinegar 1 tblsp. chili powder (not the package but the small bottles) *This is what I add and it may sound silly but it is as close as I can get....I open 2 cans of chili beans and I only use this juice (don't put them in-just save for salads or another type of recipe). I pour this juice in with the beef. I also add a small amount of tomato sause (not much) as my husband likes it better. This is as close as I can get without the Rice's Brick Chili! Let me know if it works for you! Good luck |

Years ago when I was in High school I worked the summers for the Union Pacific RR. We put a new roof on the depot there. Does the RR still run from St. Joe to Marysville? And you can buy brick chili at almost any mexican market.

i grew up here and also liked the BS beefburgers.
Southgate on the corner of King Hill and Alabama now serves a beefburger that is very close to the old BS beefburgers. peace |

As a former southender and Benton grad, I remember the beef burgers very well. The owner of the Bucket Shop was a man named Pete Chirila. He died about twenty-five years ago. He had a son named Re-Pete (whereabouts unknown to me), a sister named Juana Masson who lived on the two hundred block of Indiana St. She also had a son tamed Tony Masson. They used to live right next door to the Duffy girls. This was as of 1982, but from my last visit things have changed. At least my good friend Mike Strong has made it big as the Sheriff. St. Joe is lucky to have him. He was a standout lineman for the undefeated 1972 Cardinals of Benton. He opened the holes for Jay Randall and protected Scott McCamey when he did decide to pass. Anyway, my mom worked as acook at the Bucket Shop. She always came home smelling like the beef burgers and onions. I wish I had the true recipe, or could ask her, but we lost her to heart problems seven years ago.

You can still buy chili bricks, just not the Rice brand. Hy-Vee in St. Joe sells them and I would imagine that any Hy-vee in the US does also. You can find them in the freezer section of the store. The closest brand that you can find to Rice is Seitz, I believe this is because Seitz bought out Rice, but I am not sure. Good luck with the burgers!
