Amtrak train derails north of Windsor Locks

Six people on board? They should have taken the bus in the first place.
you took the words right out of my mouth. |

I hate the Bus so much. I would take a train over a bus any day. 6 people aboard a train? that figure sounds strange for gas being 3.25 or so a gallon. the Vermonter has 100+ people every time through that area.

AMTRAK has igored the NHV to SPG line for too long, it appears the the New Division Engineer does NOT have the BALLS to stand uo to the Superendant. Pilotics is strange However, the Superentendent has had the WORST track in 40 years. Perhaps something is wrong at that level.

Bring the NY&NH&HRR back at least they cared for there customers right to the end. The next derailment will be just north of the CT River bridge MP 50 there is a 10 MPH restriction because of wide gauge on the curve. Instead of Amtrak work crews spending there time hanging a sign on the curve on the pole over 20 ft up. It says Stompers Point it's a old retired guy that hangs out there and talks to the crews as they pass on a radio........Amtrak do your job instead of doing favors for railfans.........
NHRR, you had me until the last sentence. Exactly what "favors" is Amtrak doing for "railfans"? That part has me raising an eye-brow.
I saw the Amtrak crew in there trucks hang the sign for him. And a couple of guys that work here have seen him talk on a Motorola radio and in talking to him, he has a buddy in Amtrak that "gave him that" It makes he feel safe that a railfan can converse with passing trains on a radio that is reserved for Amtrak and CSO operational freqencies. Doesn't dispatch question who that is? I see him there everyday.........

Eh great, some nutty foamer with a handheld and his own "CP". Dangerous is just the tip of the 'berg, him using those channels is quite illegal (as you already know). Nobody has tried to bring the FCC down on him...or at least an Amtrak cop to reclaim the handheld?
I don't dislike railfans (as a "part-time" one myself); that guy sounds more like..a certifiable nut, to me. First time I've heard of all this..the old Hartford Div. isn't very local to me or my travels. Though, it makes me wonder if the operating dept crews did something and this is MoW's way of getting even, or if this old guy is just one sweet talker. ;-) Either way someone should get that radio back..Channel 8 would likely go up there and do some human interest report about him!*groan* |
It's crazy I work across the street and I can see clearly out there, last year I saw the Amtrak truck give him a large lot of old crossing lights and he threw them in his truck, Channel 8 ought to go out there and not with the Amtrak police because he's buddy buddy with them too, they should do a investion type story on this with a outside law inforcement...it's crazy

Amtrak is subsidized by the taxpayers.
So they are giving this property to a railfan? |
The Amtrak police are too busy protecting the railroad in other places like Hartford, where they write tresspassing tickets to the methadone users who cross the tracks, in order to make the numbers look like they are protecting our national security.

Somedays theres just too many garbage trucks in the world.
What were they thinkin' hey... |
I would be willing to offer more detailed info to the right people{ie wtnh reporter}or to help find out who in Amtrak is giving away taxpapers money and why is guy is breaking FCC rules and operating a radio on Govermemt freqencies...........How about it 8

You guys really need to lighten up about the guy in Windsor Locks. This is why railroaders hate railfans, because some people make a big deal out of nothing. Is he harming you? NO. There are several other "CP" along the line that are less visible. But you know what railroaders like to have fun too. As for the radio, it's not difficult to get that channel on a handheld radio that you purchase. Channel 8 and law enforcement? Give me a break you sound like a bunch of little old ladies. GET A LIFE.

Here here, to what the guy from Southington says. I found it interesting that the guy who so strongly wants to sound like an anti-foamer goes by the name of "New Haven Railroad". "Gag me with a spoon", as they said in the early 80's. I agree that this guy should get a life, and HE is the very type of idiot that does make railroaders hate railfans. This guy is probably jealous that this "Steve Guy" has a good rapport with the train crews and Amtrak guys. As for FCC rules; again, get a life and why don't you go play with your CB set. Do you drive the speed limit, or are you one of these guys that thinks the laws should apply to people other than yourself? To add, there are lots of folks some elderly and some handycapped that the railroaders are happy to see waving to them when they go by. That "Steve guy" is harming nobody.

Why didn't you use your real name in your post?
Which business "across the street" do you work for? Give us this information and we could get interested in this story. |

Who are you two clowns??
Railroaders hate railfans cause of idiots like the guy in Windsor Lock's who think they're a part of the railroad. Responsible railfans obey laws when they go about their hobby...and rails don't mind them. Responsible railfans stay out of the way and out of operations, except to report emergencies. Obviously you can not only get FRA channels on any handheld, but also EMS, Police, and Fire....do you two clowns support "fans" using those channels too? CB's have their own frequency range for a reason.. Sorry to disappoint but I don't make an effort to break FCC laws. This isn't about waving at railroaders, this is about someone parking themselves next to the tracks with a radio on channels reserved for dispatchers and trains. If you want to talk, get the crews' cell phone numbers. Now you two kids go back to your Lionel sets, and leave the big stuff to those whose job it is..thanks. |

Mister RedBloodedAmerican from Wallingford asks, who are the clowns? You are the clown buddy, and who elected you as the central scrutinzer? Are you one of those cop wannabees that is all pissed off at the world because they flunked you for psychological reasons?
How can you assume that guy at Wharehouse Pt. "thinks he is part of the railroad"; speak for youself. Do you think you are part of some enforement group on FCC affairs? Is he causing malicious interference? For your information that guy does "stay out of the way", and has provided good information to catch vandals. Just so you know that the railroads don't operate "FRA channels" as you call them. Have you ever heard of the AAR? Where does all this expertise come from? Perhaps you memorized the questions and got youself a technician licence so you could talk on 2 meters, an be the envy of everyone on your block. I bet the CB'ers think of you as godly. Nobody is "making an effort to break FCC laws", and we are sure proud to hear that you don't break the either. We "kids should go back to our Lionel sets" as you say. So I guess we will leave "the big stuff" to an expert like you. You must be one of those walking railroad encylcopias that come up and try to impress train crews with all that knowledge. These are the types of rail nuts that the employees can't stand, for your information. For something to stick in your little pipe to smoke, I drive my "Lionel set" through Wallingford twice a day; all 5000-10000 tons of it! Be sure to wave when we go buy! |
Leave the poor guy in Windsor Locks alone. He is probably retired and he enjoys doing that. It's another set of eyes to keep a look out for anyone who could do something wrong.
At least he isn't out getting hammered in some bar or wasting money at those casinos. All the power to him. |
Yada, yada. I can scrutinize anything I want, who are you to condemn me for it? I see, I'm picking on your buddy. Tough beans. I don't know what rule book you guys bury your nose in on the Hartford Div, but I can't find anything about railfans on the radio in the NORAC book. http://www.vnerr.com/training/Radios_and_Tele... Hardee har har, I said FRA instead of AAR channels..yes I have heard of the Assoc. of American Railroads...and if you were familiar with regulations, you’d know unauthorized transmissions are illegal. And I'm not from Wallingford, my ISP makes this site think I'm from there. Wave when you go buy? When you go buy what? I never flunked anything in my life...but it looks like you never learned how to spell. Have at it foamer, woo woo! |
