Greene County schools...DEPLORABLE

We recently moved to Greene County from middle Tennesse. We enrolled our child into the local school system. What we have seen during this school year is pitiful to say the least. I have never seen a school system so callous and unfit to teach children in all of my life.
If Greene County spent 1/2 as much time and money on actually teaching as they do worrying about 3-4 tardy's (which our child was never tardy) and a childs BMI index and other NEA sponsored Socialist programs and took the money wasted on a health coordinator position and apply it to teaching aids the children might actually learn something.
Coming from a family of educators from Middle Tennessee and seeing the conditions Green Countians send their children to be eductated in and the lack of competency of the teachers compared to what the other areas of the state have I am regretting even moving to this area.

Our children will be homeschooled next year.

Blame it on your fuc ke d up government, not the school system. Do you think they care how bug your child as s is? NO but your govt does. And go ahead and homeschool your child, legislation is already being voted on making it a crime for YOU to home school your child unless your a licensed certified high;y qualified teacher.

Being educators, I am surprised that you didn't do your research on the Greene County School system before you moved to Greene County. Many sites like GreatSchools.net will "grade" schools on academics, test scores, teacher-student ratio, diversity, population, etc. I have contacts in Greene County (do not currently live there) and I KNOW that certain schools (and certain systems) are better than others. What did you expect?

The rating sites spoke of doesnt always reflect the truth. I moved to Greeneville two years ago due to Hurricane Katrina. I loved the area so decided to buy here. Little did I know just how bad the School System is. I know there are many variables and some Schools are better then others here.
Mosheim Elementary is the only one I have dealt with. My Son went to Pre-K there and then started Kindergarten there. 2 Months into the School Year he got a Compound Fracture in his leg from "walking down the hall" According to the teachers at first, Which once I showed them the Doctors report stating from 2 Doctors that is almost impossible to have a break such as his from walking they changed their story to they "didnt really see it happen".
Stories changed and changed and they refused to take responsibility for the accident. Even the School Nurse was asking us "if we ever found out what really happen". They even had the guts to say they were glad we had insurance to cover it!
He was out of school for 5 months and we had to force them to send a teacher to our home once a week. Then they wanted us to hold him back. It was never ending.
I got fed up with them, Started looking to Home School. Found a nice Private Christian School that you can Home School out of and not have to still deal with the County School System.
Of Course the Principle and Teachers at Mosheim said they can do better then we can.(Actual Words out of their Mouths) So I asked His Teacher what type of Education she had, she said it wasnt really any of my business. After pushing more on her she stated she had a General Education Degree.
Now Myself, I have a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science and my Wife has a Bachelors Degree in Sociology. Who do you think is better qualified to teach my Son?
I think it can go without saying there.
Bottom Line don’t just “settle” on your Childs education, the School System isn’t always the best route. If possible look into other avenues. Its not always the school system, our Government has cut back the funding to schools so much they system has to hire “less then standard teachers” to educate our kids. But that doesn’t give them the right to tell you or teach your child what “they” think is best. Always have an active role in your Childs education. You wont regret it.

That's what forum's are for. A place to voice your opinion. I'd be willing to bet my trailer, income, and IQ, are all bigger than yours.
